NBR: Those who went to college

Did you take the ACT or the SAT? Did anyone take both? I have to take one or the other to get into the Nursing Program (because the last time I took the SAT was over 5 years ago) and I wanted to see was the ACT any better than the SAT. TIA!

  • I agree with Kathy that it's nuts to take it again!

I took both the ACT and SAT. I did slightly better on the ACT. It was a lot more reading and comprehension than the SAT (from what I remember of it!)

I think its nuts as well, but apparently, some colleges are doing it now. As much as they need nurses you would think they wouldn;t make you jump thru so many hoops just to petition!!

Are you going directly into a nursing program at a four year school? I doubt it will be too bad. You will do a great job.

You could probably bypass the requirement by getting some of the basic courses completed at a Junior college and then transfer into the program.

edit to add: my recommendation would be to take the test that you know/have taken before, because having a basic familiarity with it will help you to score better on the next go!

Ok, this is to get into the program at a community college! I have all the basic courses done, nope doesn't matter! They STILL want you to have a recent ACT or SAT score.

I took the ACT. You should check out sample tests of each online to see which you're more comfortable with. Good luck!

This! When I applied I had to take it and I'll have to take it again when I apply again...it was so easy except the A&P part.

CRAZY! Must be a pretty prestigious and rigorous program.

  • I took both.  I scored slightly better on the ACT, if you were to compare them equally.  However, the SAT has changed (as Sonadora mentioned), and now has a writing section.

I think it is crazy that if you've been out of HS more than 5 years that they would make you take it again.  If you have the ability to take a prep class, I would, since it's been a while since you've taken either one.

Depends on the school. Ask the admissions office at the school you want to get into. If they don't care which one, then ACT (at least I thought) was easier (study, though, because it's all 10th-11th grade content).

What is HESI A2? I'll have to google it!

  • Oh, and I did get a study book from the library for both! Both have their pros and cons. I may take both and see how I fair. Thanks all!

  • I took both.  I applied to quite a few colleges, and some required different things from others.

It's odd that you have to retake it - usually adult students are exempted from that sort of thing.

  • I only took the ACT.  I did well on it back in '98.  I'd probably bomb it now.

  • I took the SAT, but I also graduated from high school almost 20 years ago (OMG!) so I'm not much help. I think the ACT was brand new then.
