Cloth Diapering

xp: switching to cloth at only night? will it work?

So my LO has been waking up wet no matter what I do. First we tried pampers, huggies then luvs. Luvs are the only thing that started to keep him dry, but then the past 2 mornings hes woken up wet again. I was considering trying cloth but only at night, I heard cloth keeps them dryer? Any one do this? Or have suggestions on what I might need? Any advice would be greatly  appreciated!!! 1ht.

  • My gut reaction is that it will take a long time to get enough diapers to do a decent load of laundry. If you wait that long with dirty diapers you'll get ammonia build up, stinkies, and possible ammonia burns.

It's possible to do a small load, but tricky as you need enough diaper to water ratio to get them to scrub against each other.

  • I don't see how cloth could keep him dryer than the crazy absorbency of the chemicals in disposables. It sounds like you just have a bad fit in whatever you're trying. Like pp said, you could give it a shot - but why not do it whenever he's home? It's really not that hard once you get going.
  • I would imagine if you had three overnight diapers, washed with towels every two days it would be ok.

  • I've heard of people using a wool cover over a sposie, but If your looking for a dry feel for the baby it wont make a difference.

  • I had the same problem with DS and it is the exact reason we got into cloth diapering! We started with it at night, but quickly switched to CDs full time (except when DS is in daycare 3 days a week ... he still has a stash of sposies there that we're going through before we switch to cloth) and there's no going back!

If you're interested, I have a Monkeez Nite Nite OBV and a Goodmama Good.night (both fitted, will need a cover) that I'd be willing to sell you for cheap if you want to try an overnight diaper without investing a lot to begin with. I'll poke around and even see what kinds of doublers I might have to go with them. Another Bumpie helped me get started with the same sort of offer and I am forever grateful! PM me!
