sunscreen? I live in AZ and just wondering when its safe to use on LO. LO cannot stand hats so I am worried about being outside. Any recommendations for sun protection? TIA!
Actually...you can use true sunblock, not sunscreen. A lot of the sunscreen manufacturers use the terms sunblock/sunscreen interchangeably, so you have to look at the active ingredients. You want to get the ones where the main active ingredient is zinc oxide. This forms a physical barrier on their skin and blocks the sun. It's the same ingredients as most diaper rash creams, and it's safe for all ages. We're using Neutrogena Pure & Free Baby, but there are a few others out there.
Sunscreen, the "bad" stuff, works by absorbing chemicals into your skin, which is NOT safe for babies. (It's probably not safe for the rest of us, either, but we keep using it...!)

This thread has great info throughout it. I got California Baby sunscreen for the summer, and I'm sure it will work great. I'm in love with their other products. California Baby Calendula cream totally cleared up Luke's bad case of infant acne, and California Baby Calendula Shampoo has totally cleared up his bad case of cradle cap. The products are all natural, so the sunscreen (which is really sunblock) shouldn't be harmful. It's on Amazon if you want to order some.
