Was in a car accident yesterday, today very sore

I rear-ended someone yesterday.  It was totally my fault and I am so glad that no one was seriously injured.

I am pretty sore today, though.  My back and neck and shoulders.  Would you go see someone?  And, who would you see?  I don't want to be all dramatic but I want to get medical care if I need it while it falls under my auto claim.

  • I'm so sorry.  Definitely good no-one was injured. I would go see a chiro- a massage will probably make you feel better, but a once-over wouldn't hurt.

I have a few doctors I ? if you need recs.

  • So sorry to hear you were in an accident.  I'm glad you and the other parties are ok.  I know how frustrating it is to deal with all of this - getting your car fixed, insurance inquiries, etc.

I went to a chiropractor after a car accident, and it was covered under my auto insurance.  I would rec my guy but he is on the other side of town from you - Parmer and Lamplight Village.  Hopefully someone can rec a chiropractor on the south side of town.  I have found tremendous relief from chiropractic ever since - not only the car accident, but during my pregnancy and just for routine maintenance, so to speak.

  • ((hugs)) glad you are ok. It wouldn't hurt to go to your PCP to get checked out.

  • Thats sucks.  I'm sorry but so glad everyone is ok.  I went to my GP after my accident.  Its always good to get looked at and if nothing else they will give you some good muscle relaxers to help with the pain.
  • So sorry to hear about the accident but thankfully no one was injured seriously.  I would recommend seeing someone - sart with your PCP and see if they recommend a Chiro from there.

    Thanks, everyone.

    Amy,

When you went to the chiro did you just submit the receipts to your insurance and they paid them?

  • So glad you are ok overall! I would definitely go see a chiro and/or MD to be checked out. My chiro dealt directly with the insurance company and it was all covered. As for a massage, I'm sure that would help, but I think you have to see a doctor of some sort before they can work on you (when you have been in a car accident.) I have chiro recs if you are interested, but they aren't south and I think that's where you live.

Although, now that I think of it, I have a friend who lives south and saw someone before. Let me know if you want the info and I'll ask her.

  • Ugh! Glad y'all are okay, though. Especially with your previous back issues, I would go see a chiro. Good luck!

If she had success with that person, I'd love the info.  Thanks!

    Amy,

Actually, I didn't have to do that.  My chiropractor submitted everything to my insurance on my behalf.  Didn't have to pay anything out of pocket.  From what I understand, most chiropractors are set up to do this, as they so frequently have patients in car accidents.

What my chiropractor did was give me an initial evaluation, and then he went through what my insurance covered with me.  At the time, I think it was $2K.  It was well over what I needed in terms of adjustments, but he walked me through it just to make sure I understood.  I.e., he is recommending X amount of treatment, X times a week, which costs X, and my insurance will cover X amount.

    Does that help?

    Yep, thank you so much.

  • Ouch! Glad it wasn't serious.  I would go to a chiro and get checked out.  You could have whiplash.  And soreness is normal.  Your muscles will take a few days to get back to normal.

Here is the linky. She loved him!

  • I haven't read the other responses.  But, you should see someone.  It's better if you do it now since the accident was yesterday.  That way, it would be easier to claim if you need to.

ETA:  sorry, my brain is not working today.  I'm glad no one was seriously injured, and I hope your neck and shoulders get unsore soon!!!

  • Ugh, sorry!  Ditto PPs, I would definitely get checked out if you are that sore.  Hope you feel better soon!

  • Oh no, I am glad you are okay! I'd probably get checked out, especially if you have previous back injuries. Feel better!

  • Sorry to hear it. That blows!

It sounds like pps are hooking you up with chiropractors, but I've had great success with physical therapists. If you have issues getting insurance to cover chiro visits, I can give you a rec for a great physical therapist in central Austin.

  • Glad you are ok.  I hope you feel better soon
  • DH & I LOVE our chiropractor.  We were so sad when we switched insurances and he wasn't a provider but he's actually now a provider so we both saw him recently.  His name is Lenny Brustein at Victory Medical.  He submitted everything for us for insurance and even has a massage therapist give you a massage after.  We just paid the co pay for whatever it cost to see a specialist on our insurance.  He's located at Ben White & Victory Dr. near S. 1st.  I saw him after a car wreck and just seeing him once I was no longer sore.  Glad you're not hurt!
  • I'm sorry to hear that.  Feel better soon!
