When did you start flossing your child's teeth?

I feel like I'm behind here.  I'm a little obsessive about brushing DD's teeth and her not having much juice/sugar, and I've tried flossing her teeth, and it doesn't work well.  Maybe her teeth aren't close enough together yet?  Her 2 year molars are still coming in.

When did you start?

Around 2-ish.  I bought those plastic flossers - don't use them that often (few times a week). I figure it gets him used to me doing this - even if the teeth aren't that close together.  Then he gets to use the flosser when I'm done before we throw it out.

Great idea.  I was having issues trying to get my giant hands into her tiny mouth.  Thanks!

  • Around 2.5. I also use the plastic flossers -  she likes to pick which one to use. The dentist said to floss the teeth that are touching each other - there's only about 4 that I actually have to floss. We do it almost every day.

  • Around when he turned 3, is when I started flossing.  He'll be 5 in Sept.

When he turned 3 but yes we use the flossers and I really only do it for the two front teeth that are tight together the rest are pretty far apart so I do the front one and let him do the rest for fun and to get into the routine of it.
  • I took him to his first dentist appointment in December when he was 21 months old. They said to go ahead and start a couple of times a week between any teeth that are touching. I admit I don't do it that often - maybe once a week? They gave me a flossing apparatus that is like those plastic flossers but can be reused (you load it with your own floss).

  • I started with DD when she was 2. Her dentist said to only do the teeth that are touching... so right now we only floss in between her 2 bottom front teeth and the ones directly above. she has little spaces between all the others.
