Cloth Diapers and Front Loaders

Does anyone on here use cloth diapers and have a front load washing machine? If so, which detergent do you use, bow much do you use and what is your process (hot, cold, rinses, etc)? You would think I would have the CDing down with my second baby, but I just feel the diapers are not getting as clean as they should. I use Planet detergent and do a pre wash, wash on hot, extra rinse and then do the same thing again with a cold wash. I just feel when they are done washing, they don't smell clean. I don't have a stink issue with the diapers unless my DS has peed a lot.

Any recommendations or anything I am not doing?

Thanks so much!

Re: Cloth Diapers and Front Loaders

  • I do the following setting:

Delicate Cycle, cold, less clean with Tide Free powder (this is about a 20 minute cold wash)

Normal Cycle, hot, extra rinse, no detergent (this is like 45 minutes)

    Line dry.

This is what I found to work best for me.  I tried all kinds of detergents and did the detergent in the hot wash but this is what finally helped my stinky issue.

Oh, and I actually used about a tablespoon of regular powder Tide, not HE.  It just happened that they didn't have the Free in the HE version, luckily this worked for me.

  • We had problems with diapers stinking with our front loader and tried a couple of different routines, but below is what worked for us.

Cold Wash in delicate cycle - no detergent

Hot Wash / Extra Rinse with normal amt of HE soap - we use Country Save

    Extra Cold Rinse

Dry in dryer for 20 minutes, then line dry

  • Thank you all for the suggestions! I will have to try them out :)
  • I did a rinse and spin with nothing. Then I did a sanitary cycle which is very hot water, uses extra water and washes them forever! Then I do another rinse and spin with extra water.  I used tide powder, just a little bit...probably a tablespoon and I washed every other day.
