Personal ?

Ok I am sure I am just being weird but...I was cleared by the doc last week-I am 7 weeks postpartum.  Doc gave me a safe BC pill to take since you sometimes don't get your period while breast feeding.  The doctor said I may or may not get my period so I started the pill right away instead of waiting until the first day of my period like normal.  I've been taking the BC for exactly a week and got my period today.  It's pretty regular of a flow.  I;ve also started working out every day (Jillian Michael's)  is this just my period or should I call-could it be anything else possibly caused by working out??  I guess I haven't had my period in so long!  hahaha!  I guess by continuing my BC my period will regulate itself?  any ideas?  :)

  • Yeah you didn't have much of a choice but just take it since with BF you never know when the period comes back. But it sounds like you are just one of the unlucky ones where AF couldn't wait to visit.

I would not worry that it is workout related but if you do worry then maybe a quick call into your doctors office might ease the worry

  • You did the right thing starting when you did. Chances are the BC pills brought on the period.  Unless you are having serious cramping or a flow that fills a pad in less than 4 hours, I don't think you need to call.  Unfortunately it will take time to regulate before it is "normal" again. I worked in an OBGYN office and we always told patients to give any start or stop of a BC up to 3 full cycles to get back to normal.

  • Thanks guys!  I feel better now.  That helps.  AF is a bit heavy but not concerning...I had been on BC before TTC for about 5 years and was used to a super light period...I forgot what it was like to have a 'normal' AF...blah!  I was getting used to being AF free!

  • You are on the mini-pill you have to be super careful that you take it the same time everyday or it won't be effective.

Also it can affect your milk supply, it's safe for your milk, but may cause a drop in supply. Most OBs won't tell you this because they really don't know much about bf'ing but just be aware that it can affect your supply.

ETA- I didn't get AF for 9-10 months after having both kids. I always considering it a benefit of bf'ing!

  • It took me about 4 periods to regulate.  One month I was on i think 48 days and I swore I was pregnant but thankfully AF showed up.  I had heavy periods for probably the 4 months or so.  Now I'm back to normal with a period as if I was on BC, a few days and fairly light.

I would say it's just your 1st post partum period and it will be wonky and probably will be for a few months.

Wow period at 7wks! I didn't get mine until 4mo pp and I only bf for the 1st month.

  • AF showed up for me 5wks PP.  I wasn't on the pill and I was EBF.

It sucked.  So I feel your pain, mama!

If I didn't take the mini-pill at the same exact time every day it brought on af.  I HATED the mini-pill.

  • That's strange your dr told you to wait until after you got your period to start because with BF-ing your period could be very delayed and you never know when you ovulate and could get pg again and then what's the point of having BC?

I tried the mini-pill after having DD 3 years ago but for the life of me could not remember to take it everyday, let alone take it at the exact same time.  I found it affected my supply as well. I did not want to get pg so soon after so I got an IUD and never looked back...  I got it removed and got pg again about 3 months later.  Got another IUD right after giving birth this time.

He didn't...he told me just to take it and wait 48 hrs to have sex...and I've set my alarm for 10pm and take it the same time every day-it's annoying!
