Parenting after a Loss

refusing baby food, wants grown up food - suggestions please

DD has decided that she is too grown up for baby food and now all she wants is adut food.  I've been letting her practice feeding herself with waffles and pancakes, but I don't think those are the healthiest choices.  What can I give an (almost) 8 month old for breakfast?  I wasn't planning on starting her on table food for another month, but I guess I will follow her lead.

  • We did a lot of yogurt and oatmeal with fruit at that age. Bananas and Avocados too. I make biscuits on the weekends.you could really try anything. LO doesn't know what "breakfast foods" are. Have fun!

I bet she would love a banana with graham crackers.  She tried to feed herself banana pieces, but they kept slipping out of her hands.

  • just give her gorwn up food, all she's doing to skipping a step.  Colin NEVER took baby food.  He ate avocado, egg, hummus, toast, banana, flax seed whole grain pancakes soaked with purreed fruit or yogurt, veggies, cut up chicken, meat loaf, sweet potato fries, etc.  Just non chokable (is that a word??) foods.  My dr said nothing wrong with that.

Our pedi told us to only do egg whites no yolks. My daughter loves them. I make her an egg white omelet with cheese.

  • Just about anything you are comfortable with.

Fruit is a good choice. Toast fingers are another good choice. Scrambled eggs are another.

We gave DD a bit of scrambled whole egg. But your pedi is totally backward from the typical recommendation.  Egg yolks are fine, but egg whites can be an allergen.

  • I say give them to her. DD has been eating table food since 6m-ish and does fine. I'd just switch to whole wheat pancakes and waffles and skip the syrup. Also, A has fruit, oatmeal, yogurt and sometimes puffs when she is feeling too impatient and I am too slow getting it ready. Stick out tongue

This is the exact opposite of what I have heard, but if she does well with it who cares!

  • DD1 was eating table food at that age.  She had a lot of allergies at the time - I had to avoid dairy, soy, wheat, corn and egg whites for awhile.  So she ate goat cheese, turkey, ham, avocados, all manner of fruits and veggies, hardboiled egg yolks and rice.

This - egg whites are highly allergenic.
