Hi Ladies! I really hope this isn't a stupid question, but it's been on my mind over the past week.
My abdomen is is always hard. The babies are estimated at over 5 pounds each, so there isn't much space left (At 34 weeks, I measured 48 weeks). I have been having some strong back pains off and on that I think might be the start of contractions, but my belly is always hard, so how do I tell if it actually is a contraction or not?
I guess I am just wondering if I should throw that notion out the window and focus on other signs of labor rather than try to sense if my uterus is harder than it normally is. Any suggestions are much appreciated.
Re: Popping over from PAIF with a Question
I would go to the OB. (just my opinion)
I must have a high pain threshold, because I felt the BH, but didn't think they were coming as often as they were. Had girls 8 weeks early~ I was in labor. When she hooked me up to the fetal monitor I was contracting every 2 to 3 minutes, dilated to 4. ((I was only at the office because of a heat rash on my tummy.....I did not go there to ask to see if I was in labor).
My belly was pretty taught, but I could still tell when I was having BH (had a lot!). My only advice would be to lay down or sit down and see if you think you might be having a BH. It's harder to tell when you're up and moving around, especially if you're not sure to begin with.
No idea about the back pains, since it can be labor or just pregnancy discomfort.
GL and congrats on 35wks!
Well I, for one, have only gone full-term with a singleton so far. My belly was always hard with him, too. Do you ever feel any BH contractions? I was having pre-labor contractions for 2.5 weeks before I was induced with my son and, as hard as it was, my belly would get even harder and it would be uncomfortable when I had contractions. I think you are right, the back pains may be the start for you. Can you time them? that may be a good idea....
Good luck and congrats on making it this far!
