Pregnant after a Loss

Vitex question from TTCAL

Hi ladies!  My cycles prior to my loss were normal 29-30day cycles.  I had a m/c in Dec and ever since my cycles have been crazy (first was 76days, second was 63).  I've heard some women use Vitex to shorten their cycles.  Did any of you try this?  How was it?   Did it help/hurt your ttc journey at all?  Was it this bfp?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Vitex question from TTCAL

  • Visiting from PAL...

I took vitex to lengthen my LP, and it did, from 9 or 10 days to 11 or 12 days.  It also moved my O date up from around CD 20 to CD 14.  So it definitely did everything I wanted it to, and was one of only two changes I made before getting the BFP that led to my little one (the other one was progesterone).

  • I used Fertilaid for Women.  It has Vitex in it plus a mix of other vitamins and natural ingredients that are supposed to help TTC.   I found it did move my O date from CD 16 to CD 13.  I only took it for 2 cycles before BFP but I definitely felt a difference in how I was feeling.

You may not see results immediately because it does take time for everything to build up in your cycle.  Even if you just decided to do Vitex by itself, it still takes time to build up in your system.

  • I took Vitex to help make me O sooner and lengthen my LP.  My cycles were like clock work pre-m/c also, so it was very frustrating to have such crazy cycles.  The first cycle I tried it, I took one in the morning and one in the evening and I O'd 3 days sooner than the cycle before.  Didn't do anything for my LP and did not result in a BFP.

The next cycle I tried 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening.  That cycle turned out to be the most frustrating cycle for me.  I O'd sooo late (can't remember what CD) and when I finally did, my LP still was 10 days.  I had read that Vitex caused some women to O later, so I figured maybe that is what it was, so I quit taking it.

I didn't get this BFP until Clomid was Rx'd to me.

  • I was taking vitex the month I conceived but wouldn't necessarily recommend it. I was worried about late O and super short LP. I took it and had the strangest cycle of my life. I didn't O until CD32, which was at least 10 days later than I ever had before. I got pregnant, but I think that had more to do with the fact that DH and I had sex more regularly throughout that cycle, instead of trying to go by my fertility signs and OPKs. GL!

  • Vitex didn't do $hit for me, I still needed provera to jump start my cycle AND I didn't O until CD 42 (see chart in siggy)

Thank you all for sharing your experiences with me! I've heard such mixed reviews on it so maybe I'll wait another cycle to see if it shortens on its own before trying it. Thanks again!!

  • Vitex actually made me O later and then not at all. It did NOT work for me.

I took vitex  to move up my O date and lengthen my LP.

It did move up my O date to day 14 but dont think it did much for my LP.

I did get a BFP the 2nd or 3rd month using it consistantly (2pills aday, 400mg, I think) but it ended in a missed m/c-blighted ovum)
