Nursing from one side only

Lately my LO has really reduced his nursing time- where he used to nurse anywhere from 20-45 minutes, and take both sides, now he is finished after 15 minutes max on one side. He will pull himself off or fall asleep and I try to offer the other side but he just has no interest.  He also seems to be eating more frequently- closer to 2 to 2.5 hours rather than 3.

If you nurse on one side only, should I pump the other side, or will my body just adjust to this? I am not super engorged on whichever side he isnt nursing from, but I dont want my supply to tank. However, I really cant imagine pumping every 2 hours- blech.

My DD has ever only nursed from one side and my body adjusted fine. The only time I pump the opposite side is in the morning because I get engorged during the night when she sleeps for such long stretches.

  • Mine only takes one side. Your supply will adjust. If you are engorged then pump otherwise I wouldnt worry about it.
