started cereal & diaper rash ??

OK my son started cereal Tuesday but yesterday his lil booty has a case of the red butt but not a diaper rash really yet...Ive been putting vasoline on it (that worked when he had a diaper rash b4).  But could the cereal be causing him to have a diaper rash & should I stop using it?  My dr. said I could use oatmeal cereal which we have but now Im wondering if we should use rice.  Any suggestions would be GREAT!!!

I've heard of that happening with tomato sauce, like a contact rash?  I'm not sure if that's it, but I guess it could be.  Was it really red and is he teething?  My son got a bright red rash when he first started teething.  I read that swallowing all the extra drool can do that.  We hadn't started solids at that time so I know it wasn't food.

It certainly won't hurt to stop the cereal and you could always try it again later to see if he tolerates it.  How old is he?  Have you thought about going to a puree of fruit or vegetable instead of another cereal?  You really don't have to start with or stick with cereal unless you're putting something in a bottle.

It could be the change in his food, sure. I could also be teething, or really a number of other things could cause this. I'd probably just put plenty of diaper cream on it and keep it from getting worse and I'd only stop cereal if it's persistent.
