Teething?

I am a first time mom. When do baby tend to start teething? My mom told me my brother and I got our first 2 teeth really early at the 4 month mark. But My 14 wk old is drooling like crazy and any toy goes straight to her mouth these past few days? Is this a sign of teething?

its a sign of preteething. DS did this at about 4 mos but did not cut his first tooth until he was 7mos.

I think it's pretty common at this age - my DD is doing it too. I know it bothers her once in a while, as she'll get fussy and likes to have her lower gums massaged, but I don't think we'll see an actual tooth for a while. My best friend's girl started these symptoms at 3 months and got her first tooth at 5 months.

Yep. We have just started here. He drools like CRAZY. He is also constantly trying to ut his fists in his mouth. He started to eat less and get abnormally cranky. We are using little fevers Tylenol when he has a screaming fit, baby Orajel. and Humphrys teething tablets. It has helped a bit.

Hi all - I read that the excessive drooling at 3+months doesn't have anything to do with teething. Rather, it's a normal body reaction that is timed specifically with a baby's development -- just as they are ready to start eating their hands and any objects they can pick up, their saliva glands start working more to act as a cleaning and germ-fighting mechanism.

Of course, I am hoping this is the case because if my BF-son gets a tooth at 4 months, I will NOT be pleased.
