If LO sleeps in (their own) bed...

Where to do they sleep when you travel?

DD moved out of her crib and into a toddler bed a month ago. We have quite a few weekend trips coming up, and I'm not sure where to put her. I'm thinking on the floor with a sleeping bag or on one of those toddler-bed sized air mattresses?

Re: If LO sleeps in (their own) bed...

  • We transitioned to a toddler bed just before DD's 2nd birthday, and we've gone on several short trips since then.  What we do when we travel, is we get a suite with a seperate living rooms and bedroom with king size bed and rent a pack n play from the hotel.  We turn off the lights at her bedtime and act like we're all going to sleep in the big bed, she falls asleep within 10 minutes, and then we pick her up and move her to the pack n play, then we go into the living room area and watch TV.  She STTN in there, and it's worked really well the 3 weekends we've done it so far!

I don't think my DD would stay on an air mattress or a sleeping bag. You could try it at home and see how your kiddo does?

  • DD outgrew her PnP before she transitioned to her big girl bed, as she got too tall for it. We bought an Aerobed toddler mattress last year for camping and she sleeps in it just fine. She has a sleeping bag as well. We take it wherever we go for overnight trips. Though when we stayed at a hotel recently she had her own bedroom and she slept in the queen bed. We put pillows on either side of her so she wouldn't roll out but she didn't.

  • We put a crib mattress on the floor (in a corner of my room) at my mom's, and she slept fine there for a week+. I plan to do the same with a twin mattress this summer when we travel. I just don't see a sleeping bag working well for her as she thrashes quite a bit in her sleep.

  • We used PeaPod tents until the end of last year.  They're light and easy to pack in a suitcase.  You'd want to have her play around with the tent for a few weeks before you travel.

  • We use this and LOVE it!  It is very light and we've taken it everywhere with us.  She's also had three sleepovers already (two at our house one at a friends) and we've used it every time.  I am VERY happy with it.
  • ps: dd is 3 and 39 inches and still fits just fine on it.
