My C-section incision (pip)-is it coming apart?

I called my Dr. on Thursday and said it looked like it was coming apart. He said to buy steri-strips and reattach it and he'd see me this coming Friday at my 3 week pp appt. We have been reapplying the white steristrips every night after I shower b/c they keep coming off.  I just had DH take a picture after we cleaned it and before he reattached strips. I'm calling at 9am and asking for their email address so they can see this. This isn't normal right? I am crazy to demand that he see me tomorrow and re-suture it?

  • Oh my goodness.  Yes, demand someone see you.  I would have driven myself to the ER already if mine looked like that.

  • Oh my god. That's no right at all! You look like you are at a huge risk of infection there. I would not have taken their instructions to begin with though. The minute mine looked like that I would have gone into their office or urgent care.

  • now i'm getting scared. We've been applying peroxide twice a day and it doesn't fizz. It looks attached on the inside. 9am cannot get here soon enough-I plan to get in first thing.

Yes.  This.  You need to be seen asap by your doc.

  • Ditto everyone else. I would want to be seen first thing and would actually be there at 9 am when they open rather than waiting to call them. Good luck tomorrow and I hope that your doctor is able to fix you up right away. (((hugs)))

  • yikes. i would actually go to the er if your doctor won't see you immediately.  that definitely should not be happening.

  • Well my GP is on vacation until the 25th. This is my first day home alone with Sebastian. Its turning into a horrible day. He's been perfect. I called DH and pulled him out of a meeting, he called his friend in another state who is doing his plastics residency and emailed him the picture. He said if its looked like this since Thursday and hasn't changed then they probably won't even re-suture it-it will probably just scar badly and once it heals I'll have to have it redone by a Plastic Surgeon to make the line better. He said he sees a lot of women coming in with a lot worse. UGH.

DH said its not pulled apart anywhere but the top layer of skin. :(

  • So I'm going to disagree with everyone else and say that you're probably fine to wait to see your doctor.  I wouldn't go to the ER (oh hellz no, those places are gross) or urgent care unless you're in a lot of pain, or unless the wound starts to ooze or smell.  It doesn't sound like you're experiencing any of that.  People are sent home from the hospital ALL the time with open wounds that have to be packed with gauze, cleaned regularly, etc.  I don't think having a little bit of unbroken skin is worthy of an ER trip, personally.  You are doing everything right so far.  It's not a deep wound, obviously.  It looks like just the top layer is coming open.  Unless it starts to ooze or smell, I'd say you're fine to wait to see your doctor.  But obviously, I'm in the minority.
