diaphragm

Are any of you using a diaphragm as contraception now?  I asked my Ob/Gyn for an IUD at my 6-wk appt but she said she recommends diaphragms and tends to only use IUDs for women who are done having children, as there's some risk to insertion.  I trust my dr but now (finally) DH and I are ready to DTD and I'm worried the diaphragm isn't enough protection.  Even with perfect insertion and removal and using with spermicide (and I will use it with spermicide), the pregnancy rate is something like 6%.  The copper IUD is .6% and Mirena is .3%.  I'd rather stay away from the minipill as I don't want to go back on hormonal BC.  And DH isn't excited about using condoms.

I really do not want to get pregnant again right now.  AF hasn't returned and I'm BFing but DD sleeps through the night, so I know BFing isn't total protection.  I'm worried about the diaphragm but I think we're going to go for it anyway as it's been SO long!

  • I know -- it seemed really 70s when she suggested it to me but I was open to it.  Last night I got to try it out and it turns out I'm not a huge fan.  I followed the directions but it was really hard for me to make sure it was in the right place.  But worse was when I went to remove it, it was really hard to get out.  Like it hurt to get out.  I'm going to call my dr and see what else she can suggest because I don't think this is going to work for me.  I still think I want an IUD.
