I know I've seen a lot of questions about having one put in, but what's been your experience having it removed?
My insertion was so f*in' painful that having it removed in 2 months is a frightening thought.
Can it be removed with your regular annual exam or do you need a separate appt? Any cramping/bleeding afterward? *Did it hurt?* FWIW, I don't have kids yet.
Re: Another Mirena question
I think the level of pain is because you haven't had kids and well, let's face it, your pathways aren't as wide. I had mine removed with my annual... I cramped a little but not much (less than when inserted), and I spotted a smidge. I had a decent amount of discharge afterwards, and I attribute that to my hormones, etc.. getting back in check. No, it really didn't hurt at all. I didn't even notice.
The biggest issue getting it removed with your annual is your insurance. Sometimes the insurance companies don't like both things being done on the same day and will deny the extra claim. My OB told me that if they balked, he'd write it off. I suspect they'd lose more money having 2 appointments than writing it off (but this is just a guess). So it's worth asking, but otherwise it is not an issue.
I had my Mirena in for two years w/o having any children. Insertion hurt for about 2-3 days. Removal literally only hurt for about the 20 sec it took to take it out. I had it removed at my annual.
Can I ask why you're only keeping it in for 2 months? I know I had to pay out of pocket for mine and I can't imagine stomaching that cost for only two months of BC.
I'm not. I had it inserted in 2008 b/c I was kind of mentally done with being on the pill, but we didn't want kids at the time. We're going to start TTC in July, so obviously the Mirena has to go.
