DH and I have discussed TTC again this time next year. I really want a VBAC because my Dr. (I won't be using the same one next time) convinced me to get induced. After 22 hours of labor I had a C-section. I have always felt let down or like I failed because I didn't "push" my baby out. I don't even know what it feels like to push...
Re: I want a VBAC with #2
We've all been there. My CS was an emergency when DS's heartrate went down and wouldn't come back up. I don't think I was really sad because of the CS since it was clearly necessary to save his life, but I certainly didn't feel that I should be destined to CS for any future babies.
Make sure you find a great VBAC friendly provider and arm yourself with the facts so you can advocate for yourself. Was there a reason they suggested a CS after 22 hours? We are here to support you!
We too are considering ttc at the end of the year, which very well may change since dd is only 8 weeks old.
I really wish I would have been able to experience pushing, I didn't really experience much labor, my dr. broke my water to start labor, and realized the baby was breech, so I had my c section as soon as we got the blood work done. I am really getting sick of people telling me how lucky I am that I didn't have to experience the pain of child birth. I feel like I missed a rite of passage.
Good luck to you, I hope you have a very supportive Dr. I know I do, he was probably more disappointed that I had to have my csection to begin with than I originally was.
I don't even know what a contraction feels like! My *former* OB rushed me to c-section after failing to put Pitocin in my bag and called it a "failed induction" when I wasn't induced at all....
I'm trying really hard for a VBAC this time too. Stay positive, you can do it!
I would definitally make sure you find a good DR that supports VBACs and had experience with them. You may also want to look into hiring a doula if you can and think it might make you more confident. If you do find a good Dr. then just ask a lot of questions and make sure you are a good canidate for one!
I never had labor with my son, I had gone into the hospital because he wasn't moving and we found that his heart-rate kept dropping and so they rushed me into the O.R. I know what it feels like to desire to have a baby vaginally! You are not a failure in any way- things were beyond your control!
I was hesitant to even consider a VBAC for my next baby as the Dr. that delivered was in not support of VBACs. Yet I had multiple mid-wives and nurses tell me that I am a great canidate for a VBAC. I finally had a good talk with my midwife about it and she said they have come out with a new study that shows good evidence to really try a VBAC espicially if you would like to have more than 2 children! If you had a low incesion with your CS then the rupture rate is extremely low. If you do decide to do one I would highly recommend doing it in a level 3 hospital just as a cautionary step in the event of the need for another CS. Also, 2nd labors usually go better than first!
I hope this helps!
