I am a TTC lurker, but...

I want to hear your BFP story.  When you tested?  Your reaction?  Your DH's reaction?  Symptoms you had?  How you told DH?  Just looking for some inspiring stories.  Thanks ladies.

Re: I am a TTC lurker, but...

  • Mine wasn't very exciting.  I tested 5 times before getting a bfp.  I first tested 4 days before my missed period, but it was too early for me.  I was more nervous taking the test this time than when I took the tests to find out I was pregnant with ds.  DH wasn't home this time, but was very excited.  I told him by text, lol, since he was at work and can't talk on the phone then.  This time was much less formal, if you can call it that, than last time.

Good luck on your ttc journey!

  • I used First Response to test and the first test(8 DPO) came back with a very faint line. It got darker within a couple days (10 DPO). I was excited yet nervous about all the what ifs. I told my DH as soon as I saw the faint line but he wanted to wait and see if it got darker. When it did he was excited. Now I'm in my 5th week, and so far my only symptoms are irritability, slight nausea, and slight cramping. Good luck!

  • I tested way early because FF told me I had ovulated... and then 16 days after I thought I already O'd, it told me THAT day was actually O. So then I tested 8 days after, got a BFN, then 4 days days after that, and got a BFP!

I was shocked since I tested about 5 times that cycle (it was a 42 day cycle). I knew we were trying, but I just expected it to be negative like the others. I ended up running to Target and getting a digital, and when that came back positive, I told DH. DH was/is beyond thrilled. He had a huge grin on his face for about 3 days. :)

My first symptoms were slightly sore boobs. I could tell they were getting a little bigger, but they weren't hurting all of the time. I also felt a little light-headed sometimes when I stood up quickly.

    GOOD LUCK!

  • I tested 5 days before my missed period (however I think I ovulated early that month) and got a faint-but-there positive. H was home and holding DS so I ran out and showed the pee stick he couldn't tell what it meant at first so said that DS was going to be a big brother. Then DS started crying.  Stick out tongue

  • We had been trying for over a year. I had super irregular cycles, and I never knew whether I was going to O or not. It was the end of March, and I hadn't had a period since January. I tested once a week, and they were all BFNs. I went to the doctor on March 24th, tested negative for pregnancy and decided to do a cycle with 50 mg of Clomid and get DH an SA. I was also prescribed Provera. I took 3 days of Provera and was cramping like I was about to start my period. On March 28, DH went to get his SA, and bless his heart he was traumatized.. Later that afternoon, my package of HPTs and OPKs came in from Amazon. I decided to take an HPT on a whim and it was instantly positive. Drove half an hour to Walmart and bought more, they were positive. Talk about being stunned. I had just ovulated super late and missed it. So, needless to say, the Clomid was unnecessary and the SA was normal :) Oh, and DH was asleep when I went in the room and told him I was pregnant. He said "Okay. Shut the door." :)

  • Thanks for sharing your story.  I love that you told your DH by text.

  • Not inspiring at all.  This pregnancy came after a loss, so all the cute stuff went out the window.  I got pregnant on the cycle after my m/c, so I tested on CD 45 or so (I'm a late ovulater and knew the m/c would probably make me later.)  I got a faint line on an IC, but it was quite visible.  Tested again with a FRER and the line was there nice and dark.  No symptoms at all.  Didn't have any until I got to 6 weeks.

I was shocked and so was DH b/c we didnt' "try" on that cycle.  And we were scared that something would happen to the baby again.  I just came out of the bathroom with a look of shock on my face holding the test.  Didn't have to say a word- DH knew.

I always go into testing with the idea that it is going to be negative.  Hopefully it can be the opposite soon.  Thanks for sharing your story.

The fact that DS started crying is priceless.  I hope you write that in your future child's baby book.  What a riot!!  Thanks for sharing your story.

  • The first time I got pregnant we took a digi and I was 4 days late. I didnt have any symptoms  but with all the plans we have for the fall January would have been the worst month for us to conceive so I knew it would happen.  DH knew I was going to test but was still in bed sleeping.  When it came back positive I ran into the bedroom and started jumping on the bed.  He was beyond ecstatic and just laid there staring at the test.  Unfortunately that pregnancy wasnt meant to be and I miscarried on Feb 8.

The Dr gave us the go ahead to try whenever because my body had completed the miscarriage and my HcG levels had dropped all the way.  I had purchased some FRER tests because I had a coupon and they were on sale...plus I knew eventually we would be trying again.  We werent trying but I also noticed that I had gotten no AF since the m/c.  I knew that a m/c could throw off your cycles but from what I had read online after an early m/c your cycle should return at a normal interval.  So on a whim after my grandma died I tested in the evening on March 14 (we were already grieving two losses so a BFN wouldnt be upsetting) but I saw that second line.  I ran into the living room and basically said "Holy Sh!t... we are pregnant again" and showed DH the test.  Of course a standard test isnt as easy for a guy to read as a digi so he sent me out to get a digi and test again.  Now we are almost 13 weeks along in a healthy pregnancy :-)

This story sounds like what my future story might be.  My cycles are super irregular and the words your DH said when you told him, sound just like my husband.  I love it.  Thanks for sharing your story.

  • The last few cycles I opted to wait until I got AF because I just hated the stark white of those negative tests.  This cycle, my chart looked exactly the same as they had been looking, I even posted on TTGP asking others if their charts always look the same too, lol.

Anyway, I had a temp jump a day or two before FF had me testing, so I decided if my temp was still up, I would test, and if not, I would just wait AF out.

It was still up, so I tested and got the *faintest* line on a $ store test.  I immediately ran out and got a digi from Target and almost fell over when it said "Pregnant"!

Seriously, while I was really excited, I literally had to sit down with my head between my knees for a minute Stick out tongue

DH had just woken up, so I grabbed the test and sat on the bed waiting for him to get out of the other bathroom.  Over the course of the 13 cycles we were TTC, I had big dreams for telling him, something funny or cute, but instead he said "What's up?" and I just pointed at the stick.  He looked at it and said, "Shut up, really???" and I said "uh-huh, yeah" and then there were big smiles and goofy grins all around.

Overall, I wouldn't have changed anything about it :)

  • I took my first test at 10DPO since I didn't know when I was due to start my period (irregular cycles.) And there was an extremely faint second line. I woke DH up and asked him to come look and he was dead set that since it was so faint, we couldn't consider it a positive...silly men. Anyways...I ended up going to the store with my friend and buying a digital test. When I got home it was around 2:30pm and used the digital. I was really excited when it popped up pregnant on that screen. I ran to the living room and said "Believe it NOW!?" DH says "yup."

As far as symptoms go... I started out, and continue to be, constipated. And have the occasional vertigo and food aversion. But I've been very lucky and haven't had and nausea or vomiting. :)

  • When you tested? 11 dpo

Your reaction? I stared down at the test and said, "No I'm not!"

Your DH's reaction? He was really happy, of course!

Symptoms you had? None at the time, but started getting tired and bloated the day after testing.

How you told DH? DS was asleep in our bed after a bad dream. I waited for him and DH to wake up to tell them. I laid out DS's outfit for DH to put him in. The last thing he put on him was his shirt and then he read that it said "Big Brother". He was so excited and he told DS he was going to have a little brother or sister. DS's reaction was "ew, I don't want a brother or sister, that's yucky! Ew!" (He isn't a morning person)  I recorded it all on my flip so we'll have it to tease DS with for years to come!

  • Well...  My "BFP story" makes me feel like I'm going to be a bad mom already.  My LO is going to be able to pull anything over on me.  Oye!

I had a hair perm scheduled for a Friday (3 days before I expected my monthly).  This was the first month off birth control and I fully expected our conception journey to take a LOT longer (I'm overweight and have never had a predictable period off birth control; I figured I had undiagnosed PCOS).

Anyway, I test on the Thursday before my hair appointment.  4 days early and not the morning's first urine.  I guess I was expecting a negative just based on those conditions.

The test comes back with a dark negative line and a very faint positive line.  (I'm not a pro at pregnancy tests by any means, so I figured it was negative.)  I showed my husband and we both agreed that "that was the line that shows up when you're pregnant."

Um...  Yeah; that IS the line that shows up when you're pregnant.  Somehow it never crossed my mind that the test is completely BLANK before you use it and any positive line (irregardless of  how dark) is a positive line.

So, I got the perm.  Ugh!

Monday (day I expected my monthly) came and went.

I tested again on Wednesday and had a very obvious positive sign.

I was scared silly.  I've always imagine myself as a mom, but this moment made it very REAL.  I was very scared.

I went and got my husband and told him, in a very somber voice apparently, he needed to come look at something.

We were both in shock initially.

He was the one to "be happy" first.  Then for the rest of the day he kept feeling like he needed to go make more money.  Ha!

No symptoms until after I got my BFP.  The Wednesday I tested though I had severely  painful breasts - I never could have imagined a pain so horrible.  (Haven't had a problem with them since, but that Wednesday was excruciating.)

I don't know you, but I'm so excited for you already!  I'm so happy you've decided to be a mommy.  I'll be a silent cheerleader!

    Best wishes!

  • DH and I weren't actively trying so this was quite the surprise! I had very predictable cycles, so I knew something was up 2 days before AF was slated to arrive. We were meeting some friends at a bar. I had come home from to work to shower and change, since being a teacher you always end up smelling like the kids, lol. I noticed that my breasts were so sore and heavy, but I chalked that up to PMS. I never get heartburn, ever. So when we were eating, and the heartburn showed up with a vengeance, I got a feeling something wasn't right.  I waited until AF was supposed to arrive and tested first thing in the morning. It immediately came back positive with a faint but definitely there line. DH was still asleep so I stood there with a postive test. I ran to the bed, woke him up and shoved it in his face. He smiled and said "I knew you were pregnant" and went back to bed. It was definitely a cute surprise!

  • DH and I got married March 17, 2011 in Hawaii. I had known I would ovulate while in Hawaii on our honeymoon, and we had decided we were going to start trying the night of our wedding. However, I still thought it would take a while to get pregnant...I mean, I haven't known anyone to get pregnant their first time trying! So, we got back from Hawaii the morning of March 23rd....but I swear I got monstrously hungry while still in Hawaii! It was like the last two days there I could not get enough food! I though it was just because I loved their food so much. Well, the week after we got back, my appetite still did not decrease. Now mind you, I am 5'2 and 85 lbs...I usually eat like a bird and was eating second helpings of food!! Lol! Furthermore, DH pointed out my nipples looked darker. Not to mention, the girls felt WAAAY more sore than they normally do leading up to AF. I just had a feeling I was pregnant. That Saturday was supposed to be the first day of AF, but I couldn't wait to see if it would come or not. So as soon as I got up that morning, I went to the store and got a HPT. Took the test and within 30 seconds the positive line showed up. Holy crap, I thought! No way! First time??? So after re-reading the instruction three times, I took the stick and the instructions to DH and told him to make sure I was reading everything right. He looked at it a few seconds and then just looked at me and a HUGE smile spread across his face...I knew then that Yep...we're pregnant!

  • Mines not exciting at all...we had "the talk" mid March about not re starting the pill after I had been off for 2 weeks due to my refills running out and the dr. having to fax them over to the pharmacy.  Yes, I procrastinate.  (We had not had sex in these 2 weeks just to be safe.)  I believe we had our first try on March 23rd.  We must have got it on the first try because 4 weeks later I got my BFP.

It was funny because at out first appointment the dr. put our conception date a whole week earlier then when we started trying.

  • Mine's a bit interesting. I have PCOS and was not trying to conceive necessarily. We weren't using any precautions because of course, we were told that it would be highly unlikely to get pregnant without taking progesterone pills since I hardly ever ovulate. I hadn't gotten my period in three months and my doctor wanted me to take a medicine for 10 days which would make me get my period (just because you really should get it at least every 6 weeks to be healthy). However, you can't be pregnant and go on this medicine. She told us to use condoms for 2 weeks, take a pregnancy test, and then once it was negative I could start the pills.

Two weeks later I took the pregnancy test and had the pills ready to go, and all of a sudden I noticed there were TWO lines on the stick! I ran out to my husband, shaking like a leaf, and asked him if he though it was a positive test (because one line was faint). I had to leave right away to volunteer with church (so distracted) but when I got home a few hours later I took another test which was also positive. I took 7 tests over the next few days and got my bloodwork done at the OBGYN. Two weeks after that they performed an ultrasound since of course I had no idea how far along I was. Turned out I was 5 weeks, 6 days pregnant by the time I had the ultrasound, meaning I was about 3.5 weeks along when the test turned up positive. I had no symptoms other than slight cramping earlier (must have been implantation cramping), but I had assumed I was gearing up to get my period. Guess I was wrong!

  • I tested at 9DPO because I had a dr appt and they asked me to take one before coming in. It appeared negative so I went back to bed but when got up an hour later, I saw a faint positive. I figured it was an evap line so I went to the dr for symptoms of UTI - back pain, light cramping, and frequent bathroom trips. He couldn't find anything wrong with me so we did another test and positive again. I went home and took two more digitals. I put the positive tests in a gift bag with a baby bib and left it on the doorknob for DH to find. He was confused at first and then he got really excited. I cried after telling him. We found out on May 5. My bday is May 7, Mother's Day was May 8, and DH's bday was May 9. It was a wonderful weekend to find out and we told our mother's on Sunday.

  • I tested on Easter Morning, four days before my missed period, because the previous Thursday I had started having terrible morning sickness.  It was at about 5 am, but I couldn't wait any longer.  I tested on a regular $ store test and it immediately showed two lines.  I ran in the room, woke up DH and his reaction..."That's awesome...now let's go back to sleep..." (He's not a morning person if you can't tell).

Morning sickness was the first clue for me. Like I said, three days before I tested and I was already getting sick.  Other than that I was just extremely tired.

  • I got my BFP my second cycle that we were cleared to ttc after I miscarried in December.  I decided to test in the afternoon at 9dpo, just because I had a feeling I was pg.  I was extremely bloated, that is always my first symptom. DH was there with me when I tested.  The line was so so faint.  He kept saying he didn't believe it.  We were excited and very nervous.  We know from a history that a BFP doesn't always mean that we will have a baby we get to keep. I was shaking like a leaf and crying.  So far, my main symptoms are bloat, exhaustion, and some mild nausea.  I actually did throw up for the first time last night.  Good luck to you!  I hope you get your BFP soon:)

With DD, we tried for several years before finally getting pregnant.  We were out of town for my BIL's wedding and I decided to take a test because I knew there would be plenty of alcohol and we were in between ovulating and AF.  We were so shocked when it was positive!  It was so exciting and so difficult to keep secret!  We didn't want to say anything because we wanted to go to the doctor first and we didn't want to take any attention away from my BIL and SIL.

This time, we'd only been trying about 4 months and my during my last cycle my CBEFM went from low to medium, then back down to low.  So, I figured I might not have ovulated since it never went to High.  However a couple nights before mother's day, I lost all my dinner (lovely, I know) late in the evening.  That's when I had all my MS with DD.  Then I was quesy off and on the next two day.  So, I decided to take a test on Mother's Day and was SOOOOO excited it was positive.  We both were thrilled!  It was the perfect gift.  We also told both our mom's (his was even in town visiting) and they were so excited too!

Good luck to you!  I know how tough it can be TTC.  It's an amazing ride once you do finally get that BFP!

  • When you tested? I didn't!

Your reaction? "What? Seriously? Are you kidding? Seriously? Holy smokes! Holy smokes!"

    Your DH's reaction? See above.

Symptoms you had? Absolutely none. Now: wicked sore chest, fatigue, afternoon sickness (3:30pm everyday)

How you told DH? Via phone call, in a parking garage.

So, I had a very irregular cycle and all of the ovulation tests that I was taking were coming back negative. We had been trying for almost a year, and since I have a kidney disease, my doctor had always said, this needs to happen sooner rather than later. I was so depressed, and it took me 2 weeks to make an appointment with the fertility specialist. I just didn't want to go. I'm only 28! Anyway, I went, by myself (DH was at work) and had what felt like a gazillion tubes of blood drawn. I peed in a cup. I had several internal exams and tests. 3 hours later, I left the office with an entire packet of MORE tests to take. And I kid you not, while I was in the elevator going down to the parking garage, the nurse called to tell me that I was pregnant. I balled and shook right there in my car. I must have looked like a crazy person!

So excited for this new phase of our lives together! BabyFruit Ticker
