Let's talk pg weight loss

Ok I am getting concerned. I gained 50 lbs and have only lost 20. I haven't list any in the past 5 days and I'm starting to think I am going to really need to diet/ work out the whole other 30 lbs off! Or did you continue to lose weight after 2 weeks pp without doing anything? I am BFing so praying that will help too.

Re: Let's talk pg weight loss

  • Don't worry its only been 2 weeks. Your body and hormones are still all over the place. Give yourself a break and try not to worry about it for a couple more weeks, your body needs a chance to recover. You probably are still retaining water.

I stopped weighing myself because I was so discouraged by my weight gain during pregnancy. I gained at least 40lbs, most likely 50lbs. I didn't get on a scale until  6 weeks pp because I didn't need the stress of those numbers. At 7 weeks pp I have about 20lbs left to lose. Up to this point I haven't done much of any dieting or major exercising (besides going for a walk most days). I'm now focusing on eating better and getting back into shape. I BF as well.

I gained 42 and still have 12 to go. I lost the first 20 within a week. The rest is coming off slowly. I am back at work (I work on my feet all day) and not eating nearly as much as I used to. I fully expect to have to work hard for these last 12lbs. I wouldn't mind losing another 3-8 in addition to that, but I'm a petite person so I'm not stressing about it too much.
    I married a ginger.

  • I gained 35 and lost 25 in the hospital. Those last 10 lbs are still hanging around though. But I have to say I haven't worked at losing them.
  • I gained 34, lost 25 so far.  Even though I'm almost 2 months pp, I haven't been cleared for any exercise except short 15 minute walks with baby b/c my c/s incision is not healing properly.  I'm hoping I stop looking 4 months pregant sometime soon!!

I think this every day....except i say 5 months pregnant:)  I lost 40 lbs in 2 weeks. I gained 70 altogether, lucky me.  and i'm a shorty 5'3" and i need to get back to my pre pregnancy weight of 135, so i got 35 more lbs to loose.  I too noticed my wieght staying the same at a certain point.  so i joined the gym, got a trainer for a month, and working out 5 times a week.  they weight me every week and i was sooo ticked when i actually gained a pound last week.  then she started talking to me about food.  she said 80% of weight loss is what you eat, i was so overwhelmed by everything.  I have never had to worry about what i eat in my life and now i am looking at calories with what i eat.  always worked out for pleasure, now i have a goal.  i see all the skinny people at the gym which use to be me and i get so irritated when i look in the mirror and still see and big belly.  when i work out i just imagine what my body will look like one day again and after i get it all off I don't think i want another kid for awhile cause i have not liked my body since 15 weeks pregnant and i still don't like it and probably wont for another 7 months (you know how they say it can take 9 more months) .  sure wasn't hard to put it on.  I got some spanx last week cause DH and I were going to a concert and i wanted to wear a cotton dress and those things are a godsend:)  I basically buy cotton dresses, baggy shirts, and baby doll t's right now cause i don't want my blubbery belly showing.

  • I gained 30 pounds during pregnancy and lost all of it right after birth. However, none of my pre-pregnancy pants fit thanks to my deflated balloon stomach. I am still healing from my c-section though.

  • It's only been two weeks, so don't worry about it too much yet. But, imho, if you put on 50, a lot of that is fat and not just baby-related weight (baby, placenta, fluid, etc), and it will take work to get off. But, again, don't worry about it yet. Don't go crazy with the diet and exercise right now if you're bf'ing, you need to establish a good supply.

  • With DS1 I gained 47 lbs and never lost the last 12--- ever:(

With DS2 I only gained 35 and I only have 5 left now without having done anything besides BF.  However, since I have a 2.5 year-old, I am on the go constantly.  I am actually hoping to be able to lose that additional 8 that will get me to my pre DS1 weight by the end of the summer.

  • I gained 54 and at 6 weeks pp, I still have 20 to go. As the others said, try not to worry about it too much. I am hoping to get the go ahead at my 6 week appointment tomorrow to go back to the gym!

  • I gained about 30, lost 11 the first week, 18 by the second, 20 by a month, 26 by 3 months, and now have lost all but a pound or so. I'm definitely still soft, though. I did work out and sort of watch what I ate, but it did come off pretty naturally for the first month or so, and then slowed and occasionally stopped.

It will keep coming off but most likely at some point you will have to work on diet and exercise if you want to get back where you started.

  • It's been 3 months and I'm still losing without really trying. However, getting my pre-baby belly back WILL require some work.

  • (Just lurking over here) With my son I gained 47 pounds. I lost 16 in the first week and a few more after that, and then just sort of stalled. The rest came off slowly, sometimes in bursts, sometimes nothing for days and days. I got pregnant again when he was 4 months old, and at that point I had been back at my original weight for 3 days. I cried for a week. Then I got over it. Then I weaned him 3 months later, and lost 11 more pounds. I've had several people tell me they held onto those last few pounds until they weaned, and then dropped a lot of weight all at once. I don't know why that is, but your body must think you need it. Like everyone else said, it's only been 2 weeks. Cut yourself some slack. I was so hungry in those first 2 weeks of BFing, I'm amazed I didn't gain weight. It all evens out eventually.

  • I gained 41 pounds. I lost like 17 by the time I came home from the hospital and continued to lose over the first couple weeks.  Then I plateaued... But it did start dropping again without me doing anything different.

To be honest, the only real exercise I've done is walking ~2 miles with LO and our dog a couple times a week, and then just toning here and there (crunches, pushups, arm weights - like 10 min a day most days).  I haven't been dieting.  5 months pp, I have only 2 pounds left to lose!

Point is, you'll probably hit a few plateaus, but don't lose hope. It's only been 2 weeks - nothing is back to normal at this point, lol.  And worst case, yeah, you might have to fit a little exercise into your daily routine or cut out some calories.  You'll get there. It took 9 months to put the weight on...

  • I am 6 weeks PP and so far lost 30 lbs. I gained 60 during pregnancy and lost about 15 during the first few weeks. I know how you feel, so don't get so hard on yourself.

As for my routine, I worked out vigorously during my pregnancy until month 9. So 2 weeks PP, I was already weight lifting and walking about 3 miles a day. By week 4, I was running again. The pounds are coming off, but very slowly, even with a strict diet.

I was hoping that the weight would melt off like they do for The Biggest Loser folks, but oh well.

  • I gained 25 pounds and have lost 35.  I was overweight when we started (5'7" 175 pounds) the whole pregnancy so I'm still hoping to lose about 20 pounds...I know those won't come off without some serious work.  I'm EBF which seems to be helping, but am anxious to get out and start some kind of work out routine after my 6 week PP check up.
