How many had a VBAC after having to be induced and not progressing?
I was looking at what makes a good candidate and it said that if you had to have meds to be induced or you had slowed or stopped labor. Those both happened in my delivery and I would really like to try a VBAC next time.
Re: I know this question might get asked often and I'm sorry in advance
Hmm my c/s was due to twins and that twin A was breech (otherwise I would have attempted a twin vag delivery).
I have heard that c/s due to bad positioning and those who went into labor naturally have "better odds" than those who had tried to deliver vaginally and labor stalled/failed to progress etc..
BUT (huge but) that being said there are many reasons why one labor resulted in a c/s and another labor can be a succesful vag delivery so don't get too caught up on the odds.
But one thing I do suggest is you have to come to terms/get over/etc... the reasons for your past c/s. You have to work through those issues so that you can get past it and focus on this labor.
Do you mind me asking if you got an epidural? That was one of my BIGGEST reasons for having a natural drug-free VBAC b/c if labor did stall I could get up, walk around, get on the ball, etc... and have options to get labor going again vs. having an epi and being stuck in a bed and have NO option other than a c-section. Just a thought if you're not already thinking of a drug-free birth that if failure to progress was an issue last time you might want to consider it (if you're not already)....
anyway that's just my 2 cents for what it's worth
Ditto Brownie- I can't second enough how imporant both of things that she mentioend are:
1) MOST important in my mind is a supportive provider (in my experience a midwife) who doesn't believe in inductions and believes that labor and delivery is a natural experience not something to be forced or force a bunch of medical interventions on the patient.
2) coming to terms with your loss. I had to come to terms with my loss over not having a vaginal delivery in order to come into the next labor from a positive place believing that my body could do it rather than a place of doubt and negativity
Good luck on your vbac journey!
I was induced and had my c/s was after no progress during pushing (baby was OP)
I just had a VBAC two weeks ago.
Induced at 39wk for high blood pressure (rather than giving me any sort of meds for that BP). 2 days of cervical softening (didn't work). And 1 day of pitocin got me to 7cm by 630pm. Then I had a c/s at 930pm for failure of OB to want to stay late after me being in labor "so long" (16hr).
I had a vbac. I stalled at 7cm again. But with a few little tricks (positioning, etc), and a lot more patience from my OB, I had a vbac after 29hr of labor.
DS #1 was an induction @ 41 1/2 weeks (labor never started), baby turned at the first cervical check after about 3 hours on the pit, which hadn't done much of anything except giving me what felt like strong BH contractions.
#2 was a fabulous, natural VBAC.
Went into labor on my own at 40 wks & 4 days.
Thank you everyone that responded. I feel a lot better now that I've read this. I did have an epi, but didn't want one and was basically forced into it. My OB said that since I was probably gonna have to have a C/S anyway I might as well just get the epi. I was only at a 5. I was on pit since 7:30 that morning, but they stopped it when they did the epi and never started it again.
I won't be trying again for at least 3 years, but I just wanted to get some info on VBAC for the future so I can have the natural birth that I was robbed of.
