Need some helpful eating tips

Ok so here it is, I am addicted to sugar and by addicted I mean I can eat a full on jar of Nutalla in a day, maybe 2 tops. I love it like it is like crack, I love all the sweets, ice cream, chocolate, cakes..You catch my drift. I need to quit with the terrible eating habits because I don't want to be 200+, get diabetes or horrible skin(which is already showing) I am starting to get terrible skin. If I can quit smoking I can quit with this, just need some helpful tips and what are great foods to start with and to make healthy food  look more appetizing to me. Thank you ladies, any info is much appreciated.

  • I feel your pain.  I am the same way.  The only way I can manage myself is by not buying too many sweets.  I do need to have some sort of sweet though otherwise before I can think twice I'm on the way to Dairy Queen.  I tend to keep some sort of ice cream (try No Sugar Added kinds) and sugar-free pudding.  100 calorie packs might be an option too.  Don't buy anything sweet that is not portioned out.  Limit yourself that way.

  • I have the same problem only my addiction is candy (gummies, sours, skittles, etc.).

I find it helps by simply not having them in the house. I try to keep other yummy foods around instead, such as fruit. I make jello sometimes or as PP mentioned, single packs of pudding are good. I sometimes have frozen Healthy Choice fudge bars in the freezer or Skinny Cow ice cream products. If I get a craving in the evening, I will sometimes have a bowl of cereal (not the sugary kind, but something like honey or vanilla Rice Crispies are good).

When I do get a strong craving, I take a walk to the store and buy something. The more I ignore it, the worse it gets for me. I just am sure to not over-indulge.

If you really want to work on eliminating the sugar cravings, eliminate the most sugar from your diet as possible for a week or two. No fruit, no starchs, no vegetables with higher sugar content (such as carrots and corn).

  • I feel your pain and am wondering how I am going to limit my sweet intake after my baby arrives too. If it's in the house, I will eat it. But before I was pregnant and really trying to eat well, we only had Skinny Cow ice cream products for dessert in the house, and sometimes 100 calorie packs (and don't eat more than 1 at a time!) It's a bad idea to try to cut it out altogether, but if you have to have something, make it a reward for taking a jog or long walk.

  • One of the Clean Eating blogs I read is doing another 2-week sugar bust type thing. She has all of the details and even meal plans. I think it's 2 weeks without any added sugar at all. I would love to try it, but it's difficult. It may help bust some cravings.

About 15 years ago I was just like that- HUGE sweet tooth.  What I ended up doing was Atkins (no I wasn't over weight- I wanted to loose 10 lbs but looking back I didn't need to just wanted to).  Anyways- it completely overhauled my eating habits for the better.  I discovered I really like veggies!!  I still eat bread, pasta, etc. but I find that I eat A LOT less sweets then I ever did.   Atkins wasn't a diet for me it was more teaching me to eat healthy- eating more protein, veggies, some pastas/grain and less junk.  I'm not going to lie the first week was very hard but suddenly I realized that instead of 3 candy bars a bowl of strawberries and whip cream is just as good.  Now don't get me wrong- I do eat cake, brownies, etc.- and sometimes I can feel my sweet tooth coming back so I just put my eating in check.  Another trick I do when I have a bad sweet tooth is I give myself 3-4 hershey kisses a day to eat- regardless if I want them or not.  After about 2 weeks I realize that 1.) I'm sick of chocolate and 2.) I'm not deprived of sweets so when I see them I don't need to go crazy.

i love candy and sugared things, too. i've found that keeping fruit around as oppsoed to candies is helpful for me; you still get the sweetness without the candy. also, i drink water only throughout the day except for a tea at breakfast and a soda with dinner to try to balance that aspect, too. i get enough water and i can still have some sugary drinks!
