DD will do up to 4 hour stretches at night (...aaand, I've just jinxed things!) but ONLY in her bouncer. We've attempted to put her in the PnP in our room, but she's up pretty quickly afterwards.
Pediatrician said bouncer-sleep at night is no biggee, but eventually it needs to get phased out.
Should we just keep using the bouncer, and risk setting it up as an even harder habit to break? Or start using the PnP right now and go back to square one for a while w/crappy sleep?
(*btw, she will nap in the PnP all day, just nighttime is the issue)
Re: am scared to give up bouncer-sleep overnight....
I would say phase it out ASAP. The longer you do it the harder it will be to break the habit. DS slept in his seat the first two nights home and then we put him in the bassinet on night three and he did okay. It took a few nights but now he does one 5 - 6 hour stretch followed by three hour stretches.
It was hard but now that we are thinking ahead a few weeks to starting sleep training I am happy that we have hime sleeping in the bassinet for night and naps.
If the pedi thinks it's okay right now, I would keep doing what you're doing, with maybe a few more naps and the like during the day in the PNP or crib, to get her used to it.
I don't believe in "sleep training" for babies this young - and my pedi reinforced this by saying sleep habits don't really form until four months or so. I don't think you are setting up anything that can't be worked out later down the road, when she's a little older and her sleep patterns are more established.
My DD likes her crib better than her bassinet, and while I would rather keep her in the room with us longer, we are transitioning her because it seems to be what she wants. It's not the same issue you are having, but I feel like the answer is the same - they are the boss right now, and you are best following their lead while they are so tiny.
Bouncer totally fine. Ours slept there for 3 weeks, now she's in her crib no problem. Try swaddling when you move her to a different area.
JMO- What do I know? This is my first kid.
