What laundry detergents are recommended for baby clothes, but won't cost a fortune? I know you're supposed to avoid perfumes and dyes, but are there any particular detergents are especially good?
I think the key is just anything Free and Clear, which is what we already use anyway. You don't need to get Dreft and apparently some babies have reactions to Dreft.

The Free and Clear ones are the way to go. Just don't forget and use a fabric softener after you've gone to the trouble of getting dye- and fragrance-free detergent! When your baby is older and you can ascertain that there are no allergies or sensitivities, you can add it back in.
To be honest, we bought All's Baby detergent. I figured for the first time washing the baby's clothes-- it wouldn't hurt for a while.
But, we usually use All Free & Clear detergent for our clothes anyway. I don't think I'll buy the baby detergent again if everything goes well, because I don't particularly like the smell myself. But, that's just me.
