My right produces a more than my left. Generally I pump 5+ out of my right and only 2 out of my left. When I had mastitis it was in my left but I find that my right gets clogged ducts regularly. I assume it's because DS isn't emptying it but I'm not sure how to go about preventing it. He usually unclogs them within a day but after having mastitis once, I'd rather not get it again. Other than hot compresses and messaging while feeding is there anything I can do to prevent it? I thought about pumping after he feeds but I don't want to increase the supply on that side possibly making it worse. TIA!
Re: Clogged ducts
This. I've also had a lot of luck with pointing LO's chin toward the clog while he eats.
This worked for me too, and I barely nurse, mostly pump.
I also read that you should have your LO lay on their back and you get on all fours and let your breast hang down and nurse that way. I didn't try it because pointing the chin worked.
