Trouble TTC

(nifr) To dye or not to dye...

So, I found my first gray hair the other night, ugh! I in no way need to dye my hair (yet, at least) but it just got me thinking maybe it would be fun. I have never dyed my hair! I am kinda afraid of the up-keep involved. I am going to make an apointment for a haircut here soon, should I go for it?

  • What colour is your hair? If you've never dyed it before, you might consider just doing highlights or something to start. My experience with highlights is that as they grow out, they tend to blend in to the hair, whereas with an all over dye, then there is more up-keep because the roots are really obvious as they grow out. Either way you decide, dying hair is fun. :)

  • I have been dyeing my hair for years and actually right now have dark red hair with purple and hot pink highlights in it. I love to try different things. I started going gray really young. The upkeep isn't bad at all and the new sulfate free shampoos help keep the color a lot longer.

  • I've been finding grey hairs lately. I hate it. Luckily though I have a lot of different tones to my hair naturally, so its not too noticable. Maybe try highlights like PP said, or go with something close to the color you have so up-keep won't be too bad.

I agree with the highlights (without knowing your natural color).  If you want easier up keep then I say go with an at-home one that is as close to your natural color that just makes your current hair look *richer*.

I'm blond and have been for-ever!  When I was about 17, in the winter ...darker hair would grow in from my sun bleached hair and look funny.  So I started dying just in the winter.  Then when I got out of college, I was not in the sun enough in the summer soI started doing it all the time.  I'm fairly certain my hair is naturally now more dishwater blond but I'll never really know.

I use Nutriese Garnier and love them.  It's cheap, it's easy, and it looks great.  Hey if Sarah Jessica Parker uses it, it can't be that bad right?  LOL, sorry just love SITC & SJP.

  • My hair is medium to dark brown.  I think I might try the highlights that some of you mentioned.  Just dip my toes in and see how I like it.  If I did/do dye all my hair I wouldn't do something drastic like blonde or red.
