Mirena users come in

I just had one put in last night.  I did fine; def not the most comfortable thing in the world.  The insertion was more painful that I was expecting, but thankfully that part only lasted a short while.  The cramps, though, suck.  Does this pass eventually?  They aren't so bad that I can't function by any means, but they def don't feel good.  I was just curious how long you felt the cramping.  I expect it will prob continue to subside over the day today but I'm def ready for them to go away!  TIA!

Re: Mirena users come in

  • I have Paraguard, but I had cramping off and on for about 3 months and it finally settled down.  Surprisingly I don't have worse cramping with my periods, it was really just that initial time after getting it inserted.

Mine was on a friday.  Day one sucked, Sat was better (a cramp would hit here & there & make me stop everything), Sun a little better, then the next week I'd get the occasional bad period type of cramp.  I'd have random cramps for the next few months-not nearly as bad but also not the constant ache of regular period cramps-more of a quick, barely sharp pain.  I'd take some Advil every few hours for the next few days as long as it doesn't upset your stomach and maybe grab a heating pad.  Also, I found that tampons made everything worse, like they were irritating my cervix.  OB tampons are much shorter and were more comfortable.  My doctor swore that removal isn't as bad, but he's a man so I don't 100% believe him!

I feel so new at this b/c I rarely ever got cramps when I got my period.  Yest def sucked, but today I don't feel like its much better, either.  I took 4 Advil when I got home yest (this was after taking 4 Advil an hour before my appt per the drs suggestion) and I didn't feel like it helped at all.  I'm going to try something a little stronger (it seriously feels like my lady parts inside are twisted in a knot!) later today and go w/ the heating pad.

I just have that general cramped stomach blah feeling.  Makes you wanna go home, lay down in the fetal position, and watch tv.  hehehe

  • The cramping should subside within a day or two.  Don't worry, it isn't permanant, you will love your IUD, I had mine 5 years and didn't have a period for 4!

Ditto the ibuprofen.  I had mine removed with my annual, and I didn't notice him take it out until he told me it was out.   As with anything involving a doctor looking down there, I have to force myself to relax....

  • I had mine for several years, definitely the first week is the worst but the cramping/spotting/pain goes away pretty quickly. After about 4 months of having mine in I no longer had a period and didn't have one until I had it removed about 2 months ago. Removal is super easy. I plan on getting it again after we have our kids.

  • Thanks for the words of encouragement, ladies!  I'm feeling a bit better today.  Yesterday was pretty sucky, today is so far better but it comes and goes.

Hopefully the bleeding and cramping will subside sooner than later.  I hope I'm one of those women that don't get a period after a few months.  I would love that!!  hehe
