Those whose LO's have had their 2mo Shots.....

How much did your LO weigh the day of?

How did he/she react after the shots?

Did you get all shots at once or did you have them break them up and given on different days?

I am freaking out that my LO is to small for her shots and have myself convinced that she is going to have a bad reaction from them. Her appt is at 11am tomorrow.

Re: Those whose LO's have had their 2mo Shots.....

  • I'm right there with you, our appt. is tomorrow too. I'm sooo nervous!

She is getting shots on three different occasions between now and six months ...

  • DD weighed 8 lb. 9 oz and DS weighed 10 lb. 8 oz at our 2 month appt last week.  They each got two shots and the oral rotovirus vaccine.  The nurse was great and super quick.  They cried for a minute, we fed them, and they were calm after that.  I thought they were a little fussier than normal for the rest of the day, and DD ate a bit less than usual for the next 24 hours or so, but generally, they did great.  It was definitely harder on me than it was on them.  Good luck!

  • DD weighed 11 lb 8 oz and got 3 shots and an oral vaccine. She's been fussy the last few days so she was already crying when she got the shots so it wasn't too bad. She calmed down once I put her in the car seat and started moving. i gave her some Tylenol that afternoon to calm her down. Good luck.

  • DS weighed 14lbs 7oz and got Hib, Pediarix, PCV, and oral Rotovirus.  He cried for about 30 seconds, then he was smiling and giggling at the checkout desk.  I took him around to visit everyone (I work in the doctor's office), and he was all grins.  He took two 4 hour naps that day.  The next day he was fussy and tired at daycare and with DH, but when I got home he cooed and smiled at me all evening.  Friday he slept.

Overall, I'm happy with how it went.

  • 11lbs.  He got 2 shots and the oral.  He cried for a bit, but was calmed quickly.  He was a little extra sleepy the rest of the day, but I can't complain because he gave us the longest stretch at night he's ever done!
  • DS just had his today, so I can't comment on the next day but he weighed 11lbs 15oz.

If it makes you feel better, my Dr said hardly any babies have reactions to these shots anymore.  I'm sure your LO will be fine!!

So far today, DS has been himself... possibly a tad more sleepy, but not much!!

That does make me feel a little better. My mom keeps telling me not to do it (although she got all of our shots done, on time....w/ 9 kids). She keeps bringing up that my older brother kept having seizures after his shots. Its scaring the sh*t out of me. DD weighed 9lbs 9oz at the docs on Tues. We went in to have this cough she caught looked at.

  • Went through it yesterday.  DD was 11 lbs 2 oz and got 3 shots and 1 oral vaccine.  She screamed like I've never heard her do before and I cried along with her, but once she calmed down she was ok.  She's slept a ton since but has been fine when awake.  No reaction to the vaccines, not even a slight fever.

Your fear is definitely warranted, and I don't really wish to spark any debates here, but the best advice I'd have is to tell your doctor your family history, and make an informed decision.  For me personally, the positives far outweighed the negatives.  In fact, where I am it's the law to have them vaccinated if you want them to attend school (other than home schooling).

  • DD just got hers yesterday. She was 11.5 lbs. She got one shot with 3 different vaccines in it and then one vaccine by mouth. She was suppose to get a second shot but they ran out of it so she will get it next time. She was happy when the pedi was checking her out but didnt like getting the vaccine by mouth and cried when she got the shot. She cried all the way back to the car and then stopped. When we got home she fell asleep and stayed asleep most of the day.

As if it being the law, in my state it is the law too but you are allowed a Doctors note saying your child wont be getting vaccinated and then its fine.

  • Since we're spreading them out, she got the last 2 from her 2 month shots this past Tuesday. She weighed 11lbs 1.4 oz. She received one in each leg, and I swear it was more painful for me. Other than crying right away, she didn't have any reactions. GL. I'm sure she'll be fine.

Don't freak out, I know easier said then done. My LO was 10lb 11oz. She had 2 shots and the oral Rotovirus. She started crying when she had to drink from the dropper thingy (it's cold) and it continued through the two shots. Nurse was quick, I nursed her after and off we went. She slept pretty much all day yesterday and cried a little when she woke up to eat (I'm assuming her leg hurts). Dr. told me not to give her any tylenol unless she was really fussy. She's fine now and is taking her morning nap. She slept normal last night too. Good luck, I'm sure your little peanut will be fine.

  • She was 11lbs 11oz.

She had no reaction. (DS run a fever and was sleepy the whole day but that was about it).

All the shots in one day for both DS and DD.

Seriously, it's not that bad. Yes, your heart breaks for your poor little one but it's over in a second and you can snuggle and comfort and make it all better. :) Good luck!

We just had ours done today.  LO weighed 10.6 lbs.  He was already crying when the nurse gave him the shot (we only did the DTap and Hep B, we are delaying the other shots), but then we gave him a bottle and he calmed right down.  He's been sleeping ever since.

  • DD hasn't had them yet, but I wanted to chime in. She's schedule to have them next week and she'll probably be about 11lbs. In my region we have a combination DTaP, Polio and Hib vaccine and a PC vaccine. We don't do rotovirus or Hep B. I'm splitting up the DTaP/Polio/Hib vaccine and the PC vaccine - getting one at 2 months, the other at 3. (and then 4, 5 and 6, 7). I not really concerned about immediate side effects, but the level of aluminum in the vaccines. I know it's controversial, and I'm not convinced that the levels of aluminum is bad (there is no clear evidence of that), but I also think it is an easy compromise to split them up.
