Hello, I wasn't sure which board to post to but I wanted to ask Bumpies that already had their LO's if they took allergy medicine during their pregnancy, especially in first trimester, and if LO is okay? Also, how often did you take it? This is a huge concern for me and I have read so much conflicting information on whether or not Zyrtec is safe during pregnancy. MY RE said that it "should" be okay. I have really bad skin allergies. If I don't take my antihistamine every few days I get hives and my body itches all over. It's miserable. I try not to take my medicine, but then it keeps me up at night which is not good. I've taken it a few times but I feel horrible and scared when I take it. I don't want to harm or risk this pregnancy but at tthe same time it is very hard for me to function without it. I've read other Bumpies post that their dr. said it was safe but I'd feel a lot better if I heard from actual Bumpies that did take it and delivered a healthy baby. Thank you all so much.
Re: Allergy question, please help
I took lllllots of antihistamines in 3rd tri. My baby is fine, but started off a little bit scary because of the PG-induced condition I was taking the antihistamines for. I took prescription atarax.
I believe straight-up antihistamine is ok, but you need to avoid stuff that alleviates congestion because it can mess with your amniotic fluid (and your breastmilk, if you go that route). I'm not a doctor, though... have you asked your allergist?
No I haven't gone to an allergist for years. When I was first diagnosed with this skin condition they pretty much just said I'd most likely have to be on antihistamines for the rest of my life. Like I said my fertility specialist said it "should" be okay but I'm just so scared especially in the first trimester. Thanks for your reponse.
wait, you are going to trust internet strangers over your doctor????
Methinks you are in for a long 9 months if you are going to second guess the medical professionals.
I lived on Zyrtec and LO is fine.
But I do second PP that said this will be a long 9 months if you don't trust your doctor. I'd get a second doctor's opinion on the matter if I were you.
