Cloth Diapering

I am new to it and just testing it out before I go full force with it. I know I can wash the covers and liners, but can they be put in the dryer? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I have no idea! Thanks ladies!

Re: Cloth Diapering

  • They can be. The covers should probably only be dried at the medium temp. The covers will last longer if you don't dry them but some require being dried on high at least once to seal all the seems. I like to dry everything on the line (to save money and make them white) and throw the liners in the dryer to soften them up.

The Cloth Diapering board has really good FAQ's located at the top of the main Clother diapering  page.

What diapers are you using? Once we figured out which diapers worked best with our daughter its been great! I wouldn't go back if someone paid me to.

  • I spent more than I needed to. I probably spent about $350. I bought a starter pack of Applecheeks, and a starter of AMP, plus 4 Bummis covers. If I was to do it all over again I would just buy Bummis and probably could have a full stash for about $150. However I do love the bamboo Applecheeks inserts.

  • Don't get discouraged if you don't like your Kushies. I've heard they aren't that great. We have Kissaluvs and we've never had a leak. We probably spent $400 on 24 Kissaluvs size 0s and 4 covers. 24 lasts us two days (plus a few extra). I'm guessing the size 0s will last us until 4-5 months old.

A friend gave me some of her old FuzziBunz for her son. She recommended not drying the covers. The covers she used for her daughter 3 years ago said they could be dried, but they didn't hold up well. She didn't dry the covers for her son and they have held up a lot better.

My baby always gets poop on the sides of the covers. Are you using fitted's? I guess that would make a difference. We use prefolds.

We use fitteds and have never gotten poop on the covers. I alternate b/w two covers for a day and then wash them, because they still get wet when she soaks a diaper.

Ditto this. I have had three friends that have stopped cloth diapering all together because of their bad experiences with kushies. I know they are definitely one of the most reasonably priced options out there, but there are a lot of other cloth diapers out there to try too.

We use one size pocket diapers. My favourite is BumGenius, with Happy Heiny's second. We also have some Best Bottom diapers, and they're good, but they are not my favourite.

We line dry all of the covers and throw the inserts in the dryer. You can dry the covers on low, but I line dry to extend the life of them.
