I can't stand it! I don't want to turn my kids into walking ads for Disney or Dora the Explorer or Thomas the Train or what-have-you.
Anything that anybody's given us that's got a character on it gets returned straightaway.
Oh, and we don't own ANY children's DVDs.
I'm such a mean grinchy mom.
Re: S/O -- Who doesn't like "branded" stuff?
ditto katie. I swore up and down doodle would NEVER wear character clothes...then she loves elmo and abby cadabby and disney. Then they have disney day at school...i mean what's a girl to do? She has a few items that have characters on them...sad to admit it, but it works for us...
remember never say never :-D

I really hate those cheap branded shoes. Is it really necessary for your child to have Dora on her shoes?
We do have the Baby Einstein and Blue's Clues DVDs b/c with DH being out of town 3 days a week, I would go crazy without them and the house would become a bigger disaster than it already is.
Ditto on the never say never.
Having 17 nieces and nephews ... I have watched and learned. You never know what your kid is going to like one day ...

I don't understand this statement? you're telling me that if you allow evie to wear a disney shirt (or whatever) you feel like your kid is an advertisment for them? what's the difference when buying a halloween costume or dress up clothes with a character theme? just asking...not trying to start anything
LOL. A true bargain shopper in here!

I agree.... I don't like them either.... I've watched families I worked for be very successful with the "no character" rule and I'm confident I can follow through with it as well.
Plus... most of those character obsessions come out of watching TV and I'm not a fan of little kids/babies watching anything.
I also think that the "branded" stuff tends to be waaay worse quality yet more expensive because of the character... I think that's silly.
That is so funny, Karen. I guess it truly is a preference thing, cause I'd just save the $5 and let her wear the shoes she already has. If she didn't have any shoes, I'd keep looking until I found some $5 ones without characters.
Funny how adamant we are about it one way or the other!
I don't think I am adamant either way. I don't mind character clothes, but if I have a choice (of two things that are the same price) that's probably not what I would pick. When kids are little older and have their own opinions and wishes, that's another story.
) If Kate is 4 years old and her only birthday wish is for a Dora outfit with matching tennis shoes and the latest Dora video, then guess what she will probably get. I think a lot of parents do things they swore they'd never do before they had kids.

I guess I don't forsee myself dressing Evie up as a character. ? This year she was just a bee. ? I've never been a fan of logos even for me. ? I just mean that if they want advertising, I am not going to pay them so I can WEAR their advertising. ??
That said, I concur, never say never. ? But as long as I have the say, no characters. ? I realize someday she is going to throw herself on the floor of Target until I buy her a Disney Princess t-shirt.
Also, I don't judge anyone who choses to buy that stuff. ?To each their own. ?My sister did my nieces entire nursery in Classic Pooh. ? ?Its just not my style.?
Not a fan of the branded stuff....it drives up the price so the manufacturer can pay the royalties....I don't understand why all the diapers have stuff on them...its not like a baby will ask for the elmo diapers.
I avoid it, but never say never is what I have seen from my firends with older kids.
