Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Anyone else's LO hate swaddle blankets?

I wish I was having better luck with these.....

I have 2 Miracle Blankets, 1 Swaddle Pod and 2 Woombies.  So far he just screams when his arms are restrained.  I leave his arms out of the MB but he still fusses until I take it off.  His arms were out of the Swaddle Pod in about 2 minutes.  Based on his reaction so far, I haven't even taken the Woombies out of their packaging.

He only seems to like being swaddled, arms free, with a regular blanket.  One of the nurses at the hospital said that some babies feel comforted when their hands are near their face, so I'm guessing this is the case with him.  If only I could've known this before buying these things....

Is there any chance he will like them later or is this it?

Re: Anyone else's LO hate swaddle blankets?

  • My LO used to put his hand on his face during his first month.  He's outgrown that phase.

He would get sweaty in a swaddle. We only used it twice.  He gets hot easily.

  • DS hates being swaddled.  He loves his hands by his face (they always were in his u/s pictures)!  Even if we have a blanket gently laid over his hands they always end up on top of it or by his face.

  • DS loves having his hands by his face, he does not like the swaddle but its the ONLY way to get him to sleep at night, and he sleeps for a good 6 hour stretch now. If we don't swaddle him he hits himself with his hands in his sleep and wakes himself up. I think this is the main reason he can barely nap during the day but I don't want to swaddle during the day bc I don't want him to confuse day and night.
  • Our LO hates them & sleeps only in his footie pj's & STTN & has always been a good sleeper.  He just runs hot.  He also doesn't like to be held but over the shoulder.  Not sure if it's b/c he's hot, or super curious & likes to look around, which I've read is common for babies who don't like to be held.  He's super alert & curious & everyone comments on it. Also started smiling at 2 weeks which is the earliest possible.  He's a great easy baby so I hope yours is the same.
