What time does your two year old go to bed?

Hi Girls,

Just curious what time those of you with two year old's put them down to bed? My LO has been waking up very early lately and I'm wondering if she's at a point where I should let her stay up later? Right now she's sleeping from 8 p.m.-6:30 a.m. I know at some point kids start to need less sleep...just wondering what everyone else is doing! TIA!

Re: What time does your two year old go to bed?

  • My 3 year old and 22 month old go to bed at 8:30 pm and get up at 7 am, but they are also both still napping for at least 2 hours in the afternoon. Most of the time they are napping closer to 3 hours.

We have also tried putting them down earlier and a little bit later and they always get up at the same time.

  • 7:30/8.

She gets up a little before 7 and takes a 2 hour nap.

She can stay up until 8:30/9 if something fun is going on, but it can quickly turn into a disaster, so I try to not do it too much.  We try to head upstairs by 7:30ish and lights out and mommy leaves before 8.

  • no matter when she goes down, DD is up around 5am, so she goes down at about 6:30/7:00.

  • 7pm, sometimes 7:30 if she took a late nap or is really wired.
  • Between 7-7:30, and wake up between 6-7 every morning.  It doesn't make a difference if I ever keep her up later...she still wakes up at the same time.

DD goes to bed at 7 - any later and she is a mess when we are putting toys away before bedtime routine starts. She is up between 6:30-7:30 each morning.

My 2 year old naps from about 12-3 and then goes down about 8ish.  Now my 3 1/2 year old who doesn't nap goes to bed between 6:30-7 with a few 6pm's thrown in there.

  • It really depends on how long her nap was and what time her nap was, and what time she got up that morning. In the winter, bedtime is 7 no matter what, because she wakes up at 7 in the winter. If she wakes up at 9, she'll go down for a nap from about 1-3, and back to bed around 9. If she wakes up at 8, it's nap from 12-3, and bed at 8. I try not to let her sleep past 3, but sometimes I do just to spend time with the other kids or get stuff done. She needs at the very minimum 14 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period, so I just do whatever needs to happen.

  • Bed at 8:30...usually wakes by 7, 7:30.

  • They are in bed by 6:45... 7:00 at the latest.  They often talk until 7:15/7:30.  They sleep until 6:30ish... so 11-12 hours at night with a 1.5-2 hour nap.

  • Depends if she took a nap or not.  If she doesn't nap (most days) she's in bed by 7-7:15.  If she took a decent nap (rare) then she's in bed around 7:45-8.  She's usually up around 7:30 no matter what time she goes down.

  • Usually 8:30 but talks until at least 9. We wake her at 7:30 on weekdays, she has a 90 min nap and will sleep until 9 or later on weekends.
  • We are still going to bed between 7:30 and 8 and sleeps till 7 or 7:30am.
  • Just wondering how all you get your LOs to bed so early?!  We don't even eat dinner until 7pm so bath time is usually around 8 or 8:30pm.  If DD is in bed by 9:30pm I consider it a victory.  She sleeps until 7:30am and takes a 2 hour nap.

  • We just moved her out of the crib a few weeks ago.   She goes to bed between 7:30 - 7:45ish, and usually wakes around 6 or 6:30, but this morning she was up a little after 5.    OUCH.    I'm with the others, it doesn't matter if she stays up later, she usually doesn't wake up later.    She is a great napper and will usually sleep 2+ hours in the afternoons.

DD had a 7:00 bedtime starting at 4mos old, so it's always been this way for us.  Around 2 we moved bedtime a little bit later, and now that DS is here he goes to bed around the same time as her (7:30).  I'm usually home around 3:30-4 and DH usually is home by 4:45 so that helps.  We start cooking around 5:15-5:30 and try to be eating by 6-6:15.  They both get a bath around 6:45.  DH helps DD get her jammies on, hair brushed, teeth brushed, etc. while I give DS his bottle.  Then it's bedtime for both of them.

  • my son wakes up at 11am has a nap from 3 to 6 and is in bed at 10pm it works for us b/c I usually work nights
  • She now goes to bed at 9 pm.  She gradually made it later and later herself.  It use to be 7:30, then 8, then 8:30, now 9.  I would love it if she went back to going to bed earlier but it just doesn't work.  She wakes up between 7:30 and 8:30 am and will sleep 2-3 hours in the afternoon.
