March 2011 Moms

Can I be ridiculous for a minute?

Don't flame- I'm not trying to be obnoxious, I swear.

DH asked me the other night when I wanted to think about having #2.  And honestly, it almost caused me to have a panic attack!!!  DD is such a good baby!!!  She hardly cries, has been sleeping through the night for over a month and was only waking up once before that.  We went through a couple of weeks of fussy time at night, but it only lasted 30 minutes to an hour at most.  She loves baths, can amuse herself for a long time already and is just wonderful.

The thought of having another one terrifies me!  There is no way I could be lucky enough to have two super-good babies!  On top of that- aside from getting a big stomach and being uncomfortable towards the end, I barely knew I was pregnant.  It was too easy...

And... done being ridiculous!

Re: Can I be ridiculous for a minute?

  • No flaming here. When DH and I were in the hospital getting prepped for my c-section, he said "I bet we are back here in a year and a half doing the same thing". I almost crapped my pants. Eventually I would like to have another baby to give DS a brother or sister, but I don't want that to happen for awhile. My reasoning different - I just don't want to be pregnant for a long, long time! I had a really tough pregnancy (hyperthyroidism, pre-e, 75 lb weight gain, digestive issues, etc) and I cannot fathom putting my body through that again until I feel that I have fully recovered and feel comfortable getting pregnant again. Do not worry - you are not alone!

  • Omg I feel the exact same way. It's inevitable that the next time around won't be the walk in the park this one was.
Baby, you've got the sort of eyes that tell me tales...

Exactly!  I'm experiencing this right now.  #1 was pretty easy as far as babies go...STTN at 8 weeks, content most of the time unless he needed something, and all around easy baby.  #2 is a whole different story...reflux, won't lay flat anywhere, still eating twice a night at 2 months with no sign of stopping anytime soon, general fussiness.  I think they make #1 easy so that they don't scare people away from having more!

  • Awww...even if you have a fussy baby next time you will get thru it and time will fly. Luke has reflux and as a result he was just a miserably unhappy baby for weeks but now his medicine seems to be helping and he has been so much happier. He is now hitting 4-5 stretches at night between feedings which is exciting. I am still waiting for him to slide back into inconsolable mode but a few nights of decent sleep have totally re-energized me. Eventhough he's brought me to tears several nights I wouldn't trade him for any other baby and I know you will feel the same way. I understand though the part about feeling like you can't have another easy pregnancy. I did have horrible morning sickness that took months to end but as far as my body I got really lucky and don't have stretchmarks and fit into my old jeans in 3 weeks, I know next time I will not be that fortunate.

  • I am deathly afraid of getting pregnant again!  I guess the fact that I got two at once might have something to do with it.  I can handle two.  But two toddlers and a newborn.....no way!  We decided we are waiting at least 3 years!

I know kinda what you mean. I was lucky enough that I have only had one of my babies with colic, but I hope my next LO is good, if not I figure God never gives me more then I can handle, and I have had to handle a LOT!

My 2yr old is already telling me I should have another, and I love being pregnant, but I think what I have right now is enough, and what happens happens. Though I just started my birth control today.

  • I'm not sure I EVER want to be preg.again! I had a horrible pregnancy-it was so bad that I wanted to die most days b/c I was in so much pain. And LO is not a happy baby. He cries about 15 hours a day now, he's got reflux, colic, and is very gassy. It hasn't been a good process! I do want more kids someday, but DH won't ever let me get preg. again I'm sure. He says we are one and done...

  • I'm kind of afraid of having another one because we have been SOO lucky with this one and I don't want to have a 'hard' baby. I'm glad I'm not the only one!

  • I was afraid of the same thing but got number two even easier than number 1....my friends say it is because I remain calm with them I say it is luck; wait until you feel comfortable since although there are some men who pull more than others most of the time mom is primary caregiver.
