Can we talk about carriers? (baby wearing)

I know I've seen a post or two about this before, but couldn't find it so I apologize if this is repetitive.

We registered for a very expensive Bjorn ($179!), but now I'm thinking an Ergo or Beco may be better. If you're planning on baby wearing, what carrier are you getting and why? If you're already a mom, I would love your feedback.

TIA!

I'm a FTM but I got a Moby. I've heard the Bjorn is hard on the back? Not sure if that's true or not...

I had a cheaper Bjorn so I'm not sure if they're all made the same but mine was really hard on my back--I hated it.

  • I registered for the Ergo at BRU but my aunt got me the infantino? I still also want the ergo too

We registered for an Ergo because of the back issues we heard about with the Bjorn. I also registered for a Moby and might buy or make a sling, too. I like to have options. :)

  • I have a woven wrap and a mai tai. I've stayed far away from the bjorn because they are supposed to be bad on your back and bad on the baby's hips because they crotch dangle.

I'd go for a Beco or and Ergo with an infant insert or get a moby to start off with and see if baby wearing is what you and LO like.

  • I have an Ergo and a Moby. Bjorns are supposed to be bad for babys' hips because of they way they dangle, and murder on your back.

  • I plan to use our Bjorn for the first couple of months.  Once he's able to hold his head-up we'll switch to the Ergo.  It's a thousand times more comfortable and you can wear it on your front, back, or hip.  I could wear DS through his first birthday in it without any trouble.  I really had trouble using the Bjorn after DS was a couple months old because of the back and shoulder strain.

  • I am getting the original bjorn in organic this time.  They are $60 at amazon.  I loved it with my son so I am just switching up the material this time.

  • I have lots of carriers and would recommend the all. With DS we used the Moby until he was big enough for the Ergo. He hated the Ergo infant insert. I also have a babyhawk mei tie that I like for back carrying and a ring sling that is great for quick trips into the store. GL!

I absolutely loved my Moby and can't wait to use it again.  I used it from birth to 1 1/2 with DD with no problems.  There are so many options for carries (front, back, side, twins) that you just can't go wrong.  This time around I bought a bamboo one as well as they are supposed to be cooler in the hot summer.

  • We have a wrap for when LO is still little and a Beco Gemini that DH loved at the store.  LO will be able to face in, face out, and back carry so I hope he likes to be in it!

  • We had a Bjorn with DD and I hated using it, I found it awkward (and I'm 5'8").  MH liked it so I kept it for him, but I just bought the Infantino EcoSash when I had a BRU gift card and they had a sale on carriers.  It looks like a rip off of a Babyhawk but is cheaper.  I put it on and it seems less complicated than a moby (and has more structure) but more comfortable than our Bjorn was.  So we'll see how that goes.  Living in MI I'll likely only use it this summer/fall, since I like using the infant seat carrier when we're out in the cold.  Though if she likes it I guess I may wear her around the house.

Do you have any baby wearing friends?  I have a friend who has tried a lot of them (with twins) and if those two don't end up working I may try her Ergo, Moby, or sling.

  • I've also heard bad things about the Bjorn, so we are getting the Ergo, as well as a K'tan, which is similar to a Moby, but it's already pre-folded and ready to wear, you don't have to figure out how to wrap it correctly like you would with a Moby.

  • I have a Moby for early on and breastfeeding while wearing and then the Ergo for when he gets a little larger. I really like that the Ergo seems to grow more with baby then the Bjorn.

  • I was planning on just getting the Ergo, which I bought off of babysteals a few months back.  My SIL gave me her Bjorn. I've heard they are rough on your back, but great when you want to be able to quickly wear baby for a short time.  I won a Moby this week at an event, I'm excited about that to wear when LO is smaller.  They were doing a demo and they lady had 5 (!) kids, she said she uses them all, but really likes the Moby for nursing, where the Ergo is great for longer walks, hikes etc.  I also have my freebie 7 sling.  I may just through that in my diaper bag to have if we are out and I feel the need to put LO in something.

  • FTM, but I registered for a Moby and an Ergo based on the recs of all my other mom friends.

  • I'm getting an Ergo Performance. I know how much hip straps help on a heavy hiking pack, so I figure they'll be just as helpful with a pack o' baby.
  • We registered for the Moby which we will buy if we don't receive it.  We also purchased the Ergo Sport on the Foundary so saved $25 b/c of a sale.  Personally I have babysit & used both the Ergo & Baby Bjorn & the baby bjorn is a killer on your back plus it's not supposed to be good for the baby's hips...

  • I have a Moby, but didn't love it (I really want to though, esp. since it was so cheap!).  I ordered the Beco and just got it last night.  I'm really excited to use it.  I did a ton of research on carriers and this one seemed best for me.

  • They all have differnt weight requirements so you might need more than one kind depending on when you want to use it. I have the Bijorn-Active and dont mind it that much but you cant use it until they are about 12 pounds or so??
