We're flying to visit my family next week. Unfortunately, it's the day after she gets her 2-month shots, so I'm prepared for a crankier-than-usual or a sleepier-than-usual baby (let's hope for sleepy). Other than nursing during take-off and landing, any tips for flying with her? We have a connection to make. The two flights are 45 minutes (super short) and 2 hours each way.
Re: Has anyone flown with LO yet?
I'm flying Tues and my mommy friend suggested to just strap in the bjorn, so that's my plan, and the nursing bit you already mentioned. My flight is nonstop and only 2.5 hrs
Wishing us both luck!
I flew with LO when he was 2.5 months. 2 flights, one was 4 hrs long. He slept nearly the entire time. I fed during take off and landing, and offered a pacifier during the times he didn't want to eat but I could tell we were changing altitude.
Take a blanket to cover him on the flight, in case it is cold- it was very cold on one of my flights. My big suggestion is when you hold him on your lap during take off (and mainly during landing) is make sure his head is no where near the tray table. During landings I didn't realize how much he be tossed forward, I'm glad that he didn't bump his head. I wasn't allowed to wear him during take off and landing. which seems insanely stupid.
I just flew with LO on a 4 hour flight on Tuesday! He did great, thankfully. Getting through security on my own with kind of a challenge--I had a diaper bag, a purse, car seat and Snap n' Go. Once we were at the gate, I gate checked the Snap n' Go, check to see if there were extra seats for the car seat and we were able to have a row to ourselves. I had a bottle of breast milk which I gave during take off and LO fell asleep shortly after. He slept for about an hour and when he woke up, he was perfectly content sitting in his car seat. I went to change his diaper in the bathroom and he jumped around while staring at all the ladies...lol. I nursed him as we watched The Biggest Loser (LOVE Jetblue) since it was dark (flight was 6:30pm-midnight). He slept for the rest of the flight until my mom picked us up and got home.

Doing a transatlantic flight at the end of the month. Best advice so far is to stagger your meals (ie order a special meal) so that you and your partner can eat at different times taking turns holding the baby.
Have 1.5hr flight and then an 8hr flight!! Wish me luck!
This sounds like great advice! I think I will bring a bottle of breast milk for the longer flight, and maybe I can get Zoey to sleep without having to nurse her in cramped quarters. I won't have the carseat with me, so looks like we'll be sharing our seat, but that's definitely something to keep in mind for future trips. Thanks! (And your little guy is sooo cute!)
We flew home for Spring Break. I wore her in the Moby (my dad met us at the airport with the stroller/car seat). She did great but they did make me take her out of the Moby and take the Moby off in the ATL airport. Then we didn't have time to get it back on, so that was a huge hassle (it took us extra long getting through security because DH had a cast and they had to practically remove it before letting him through).
We took the Boppy as a carryon and it was a lifesaver!! I was able to rest my arms and she didn't have to be in the Moby the whole time. AND- one flight attendant told me that if she started crying, let her cry. It released the pressure quicker- so if your LO does cry, say a flight attendant said it was okay
We also took bottles and water and they checked them in a machine but it only took a second.
I don't think you'll be able to have LO strapped in the bjorn during take off and landing, and they will make you take him/her out at the security check. The bjorn will go through the xray scanner.
