Snarky and T-TTC

Update and need help/opinions

Okay, surgery went well, they retrieved four eggs. Here's where it gets hairy.

Only two were mature, the other weren't. They ICSI'd two eggs, and are waiting to see if the other two mature overnight so they can be ICSI'd tomorrow. My normally positive to a fault RE asked me today if I wanted to freeze the embyos and cycle again so we would have some good ones. Actually, he said he would call me again tomorrow, but if only one of those eggs fertilized normally, we would only have one.

Part of me thinks I just need to wait until tomorrow, that the news will get better, but the other part of me is now worried that we might really only have one.

I was tired, I was ready to walk away after this one, no matter what happened, and move on with my life. Plus the costs involved, especially since my husband is still unemployed. At the minimum, we would be looking at another $2K to cycle again, not to mention the $540 a month to continue COBRA. Obviously, that's a great price, but not really when you're not so financially stable. My RE also threw the max drugs at me he thought he could, and obviously didn't get a better response than last time around. So how could I expect a better outcome next time?

I don't know what to do. I want my life back.

Re: Update and need help/opinions

  • I'm not much help babe but did agree that you should wait until tomorrow to decide. You will have more info then. Thinking of you!!

  • I think sleeping on it and evaluating the situation when you have info from the doctor tomorrow is a good way to go. I'll be thinking good thoughts and sending all my positive vibes to you! ((hugs))
  • I'm sorry that your response wasn't better this time. I don't know what I would do. What are the chances, if you decide to freeze what you have, that they would survive the thaw? I'm hoping you get some great news tomorrow. Praying for you. ((hugs))

  • I'm sorry you are faced with this decision! It's a really tough one. I would also wonder how much freezing embies would increase the chance of success. I hope you get some good news today. Thinking of you.

  • Ok dumb question - if you froze them, would you cycle again and make new ones or you would use these embryos that you have just created (not sure if thats the right terminology) OR would you go through another ER and save the frozen ones?

  • I would wait until the RE calls and updates you before making a decision.  Hoping those two embies are rockstars and that the other two catch up and become wonderful looking embies too.  Sending so many good thoughts your way!

  • ((HUGS)) I would wait to see how it goes before making a decision.  If you get 2 good embies out of it, or even one good one, I would probably do the transfer now. I would be too scared they wouldn't survive the thaw.

  • Definitely wait to hear him out today.  My question is what is the benefit of freezing and then cycling again?  If you've got insurance coverage, is it going to cost you more to transfer the one rockstar embie than to cycle again?  It only takes one and my lab told me they are seeing really good results with single embryo transfers these days.
