Leg/Butt Pain

So, I woke up this morning, and have this homible pain in my lower butt check...I am afraid it could be my sciatica....which I have never had before, so I don't know what that feels like.  Stretching doesn't seem to help it, but it is in a strange place, and I don't feel like I am really stretching it that much.

It could also be that I slept on it funny.......any advice....I am hobbling around like an old woman. (oh wait, I am an old woman!!!!)

Re: Leg/Butt Pain

  • I have gotten something similar a few times recently... I find doing lunges really helps, but if you can't manage to stretch it that way, getting someone to rub the muscle would probably help. I found the spot is usually down lower on my butt and closer to my hip

  • Sounds like sciatica to me. I've had it since week 14 so I feel like a veteran. Especially if the pain surges down your leg then it probably is. But if it's causing you to walk funny and if it's in that spot, my bet would be sciatica. I asked my doctor what to do about it and she said swimming is a wonderful thing to do and physical therapy is suppose to work wonders. I have noticed that sitting and propping your feet up just the slightest bit when you start to notice the pain, helps prevent it from getting bad.
  • sounds like sciatica to me too.  Standing up, pretend like you are sitting down and put your leg over the opposite knee and push down on that bent legs knee to stretch it. I do this in my water aerobics class and at home every time my sciatica is really bothersome.

  • Baby has shifted and I'm dealing with the same thing.  I made it 10 more weeks than with my first but it got bad pretty much over night

It's a hard place to stretch but heres one that my chiro gave to me and it seems to work (requires partner for help)

prop yourself up on pillows (under hip) so you can lay on your stomach

bend your legs up so they're sticking in the air

while keeping your upper leg generally where it is, from knee out bend it  outwards and have your partner apply pressure on the inside of your foot, pressing outward while you try and bring it back to starting position

i'm not sure if you can picture that, let me know if you can't cause this stretch is really worth it
