I know I'm not alone in this. My baby girl was an estimated 7 pounds already at 34 weeks. The doctor is making me do another ultrasound next week at 36 weeks to monitor her weight. This is my first child, and I have to be honest, I'm TERRIFIED of a C-Section. I know her weight doesn't necessarily mean I'll have one, but it seems it greatly increases my chances. Anyways, the doctor has ensured me he will induce at 39 weeks if she's not here before then, because of her weight. I know ultrasounds are sometimes off with this, but next week will be the third one where her weight is checked, so I feel it's pretty accurate.

Re: Concerned about my baby's size
I am having the same issues with size. Right now I am continuously measuring two week ahead, yet it doesn't really alarm my doctor. She did say at 36 weeks we MAY do a growth u/s but since those are sometimes inaccurate she doesn't want to scare me into a c-section. However, I guess I'm not as nervous as a c/s as I am delivering an 11lb baby!!
Right now, we're just kind of waiting and seeing, whatever is safest for me and LO, I guess.
I can't tell you what to do - only what I did:
DS #1 was measuring ahead. I had a growth u/s and he was estimated to be 9.4 or 9.6. I delivered four days later (via c/s) at 9.10.
DS#2 I just had a growth u/s. He is currently about 8.5 pounds. His head and belly measure over 40 weeks at this point. I'm having a repeat c/s. A 10 pound baby is not out of the realm of possiblity given the weight of DS#1 - and the fact that I jsut have giant babies.
Talk to your OB, do some research - do what you feel is best for you. Good luck!
This exact thing happened to me yesterday at my 37wk appointment but LO is measured at 9lbs currently. I have a growth ultrasound on Monday. They will let me try to push him out if I want to (which I do) but she said if he's estimated at 10+lbs then there's just a large chance I'll end up with a c/s. At least I'll have tried though. I feel confident in their recommendations because my practice and hospital both have very low c/s rates.
OP--yesterday my midwife told me my office would never induce due to large size because it just sets you up for failure. Large babies who don't come on their own are very "stubborn" in an induction. She told me it's better to wait past the due date, try to deliver vaginally and end up with a c/s if hey don't fit.I wonder why we got such different info?!?!? I'm going to look into this.
2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14
I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
The hospitals at least here will NOT induce before 39 weeks for insurance reasons. I'd look into that.
This is exactly why I want to try. My MIL had three 11lb babies (within a few ounces of each other) vaginally. I'm sure if she had had growth scans she would've been pushed into c sections. No one truly knows what my body is capable of (even though I am small also, but you never know!)
Also, found good info on inducing large babies from https://www.lamaze.org/ChildbirthEducators/ResourcesforEducators/CarePracticePapers/LaborBeginsOnItsOwn/tabid/487/Default.aspx
Wish someone had told me this with my first, I was induced, never got beyond 3 cm in 36 hours and even after breaking my water we never went anywhere. I had a c/s and she was 11 pounds. This time around we are doing a RC/S cause he's going to be big too based on the u/s. Big babies are the best! They come out looking like 3 month olds!
