Daycare teacher asked me this morning when we are going to get DD's ears pierced. Um, she is 6 months old! LOL Yes, some people pierce their kids ears at an early age, but I don't plan on doing that until she is like 5 years old or so.
What do you guys think?
Re: Pierced ears as a baby
I'm pretty sure this has been hashed out a lot, haha.
I don't care what other people do with their kids. If I have a girl, I will wait until she is older so she can tell me when she wants them pierced. Then we can go together on her bday or something.
The two men in my life. Oh, and I have a husband too...
Tell her that babies are not for bedazzling.
If I ever have daughter she can get her ears pierced when she asks me to get her ears pierced.
Oops... sorry.
I won't pierce DD's until she is old enough to ask for it then we'll make a special trip out of it, but I don't really think twice about people who do it when their DD's are babies.
I didn't get mine pierced until I was 16 or so because I just never cared, which is strange apparently. I remember my sister about had a heart attack when my mom told her she could get hers pierced. I was afraid of the gun.
I'm currently being harassed by everyone, including my H, to have K's ears pierced.
I had Mia's done early and she doesn't even like wearing earrings now, so I wish I hadn't.
My SIL claims she is going to take her to get them done one day while she's babysitting. If you hear about a woman in Atlanta going to jail for cutting her SIL, you'll know why.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the new siggy pic MissNikki!!
DH and I have talked about this, I had mine done when I was 3, which I think was fine. But, we would like to wait longer for Abigail. For now, the plan is to wait until she is old enough to want them and we'll make it a Mommy/Daughter day. I think it would be a really neat thing to do when shes 8,9,10. She isnt ready for teenage stuff at that point, but it would help her to feel really grown up.

Look, some people pierce their babies ears early and some later. The bottom line is that while it's normal for someone to ask a parent of an 11 year old "when are you going to let your kid get her ears pierced?", it's an odd question for a parent of a 6 month old!!
This was kinda how I felt, like I needed to defend DH's and my decision to wait. The Daycare teacher is an older woman whose kids are all grown and she had her daughter's ears pierced early. But still, why would you ask me that when DD is just learning to sit up by herself! lol
Me too. I don't care what anyone does.
If my kids want them (yes, boy or girl) then DH and I will discuss if they are old enough and then take them to the tattoo & piercing parlor where they will do it with a needle. I will not take them to have it done in the mall with the piercing guns. Guns tear the flesh unevenly, are prone to infection, take longer to heal and are done by people who were trained in an hour. A properly trained piercer will have learned through a lengthy apprenticeship and will know what they are doing. /steps off soapbox
I do agree that this is just odd to assume you're automatically going to have them done.
