"No offense but...You're HUGE!"

Yes - a quote from one of the dad's of my DD"s classmates at daycare.

"No offense or anything, but you are HUGE!"

Who says that to someone? I mean I thought I'd heard it all:

* looks like you're ready to have that baby

* you look like you're about to pop

* Wow, you were right, you DO get big

To just name a few. I thought I was numb to it, but "you're HUGE" takes it just to a whole other place for me...

  • Awww, that sucks. People are so dumb sometimes. The words "no offence" does not negate their rudeness.

  • I heard that from a friend of mine the week I delivered. Its not something a pregnant woman wants to hear.

  • It doesn't really bother me when people tell me I'm huge because I am indeed huge.  But it is only in my belly and nowhere else.  If I was putting weight on in other places or swelling it would bother me more because I would be feeling self conscious about it.

But it did bother me when a woman a church greeted me with "Hey fatty."  She is dead to me.

  • My 6 year old niece said to me, several weeks ago when I was still relatively small and looking pretty good, "it kinda just looks like you're fat".

  • If you feel it necessary to mutter "no offense" before saying something, you should probably just keep the entire statement to yourself. Yes

For real? I don't mind being called fat or chubby by DH and my friends. We laugh and joke but the parent of another kid or some nasty church lady? Um no.

    this x 2.

saying 'no offense' doesn't make it okay to be rude.

  • You should have responded with something like:

No offense, but you are stupid. Or No offense, but I'm surprised you survived to father a child if you go around telling pregnant ladies that they are huge. Or, No offense but, you should invest in a muzzle and wear it whenever you go out in public.

  • Have you considered the atkins diet? it can help with unexplained weight gain. I understand how humiliating it can be for evn strangers to notice all the pounds you've put on...sadly I've been there. I tried working out, counting points and all but only atkins worked for me.

...Hmm  Giving birth generally tends to help with the explained and natural weight gain of pregancy too.  You do know this is pregnancy board and not a dieting board correct? And that everyone in this particular group is 9 months pregnant...

Have you considered shutting up and getting a clue?!  Her weight gain isn't unexplained.  I do believe that it has something to do with the watermelon in her ute.
