I've seen some ladies mention packing both a hospital bag and a diaper bag. I guess that makes sense, although I didn't do it the first time. I may pack the diaper bag and just leave it in the trunk of the car, putting the baby's hospital essentials in my hospital bag. Or maybe I'll just substitute the diaper bag for my purse.
Re: Are you packing a diaper bag for hospital too?
good point!
i brought the dumb diaper bag last time and as we were driving home i realized, what i the world could this child need from that bag in the 15 min ride from the hospital??? this time, baby gets a going home outfit and blanket packed in my bag.

BFP!! 8/29/16 --> EDD: 5/11/17....it's a GIRL!!!
When I had my first baby I didn't know that I could take home whatever was left in the cart, that it was already bought and paid for by my insurance. My sister grabbed it all for me while I freaked out thinking we were going to get caught. lol
That is crazy. I thought all that stuff was pretty standard.
I don't plan on bringing one. I figured the hospital will have everything we need and we should be able to make it home just fine without needing anything extra.
You have to bring your own diapers? Where are you delivering? That just sounds crazy to me. They MUST have some diapers on hand somewhere on the off chance that someone doesn't remember to bring their own though..
The hospital I am delivering at provides diapers and wipes plus a thin shirt but we are taking our diaper bag because there are certain diapers I want to use and we are taking several gowns for her to sleep in because I don't think a thin shirt will be warm enough.

Is it already paid for by insurance? I guess it must be since so many moms are talking about how they took stuff from the hospital. I guess I'm used to the stories of how hospitals charge so much for just a tylenol that I assumed they were going to itemize each diaper you used.
this exactly!
more than likely you will be charged 4x for things you don't even use.
Been away from theBump for a while, getting active again for all the good advice
If it is an item in your room you've already been billed for it...and they wont take it off the bill if you leave it behind. So if you pack a toothbrush and toothpaste and soap and stuff make sure you tell them before they bring you any...cuz they will charge you for it as long as its delivered to your room.
Such a good idea! I guess maybe I'll bring an empty diaper bag and stock up!
This. And being that my sister works there, I may bring a duffle bag. LOL!
I plan on packing a diaper bag because I don't intend to use most of the items our hospital provides. I don't want to use Pampers or Johnson and Johnson's stuff, so I'll bring my own diapers, wipes and baby toiletries.
Also, I have a ridiculously high deductible, so those "freebies" that everyone loves will show-up on my bill and I will likely be responsible for paying for them. I'm going to try to avoid unneeded items in an effort to make my delivery cost less, if not for me, than for the insurance company.
Baby Gender Predictor
Yup. Mostly because when DD was born she was there long enough that the nurses suggest we get her into some onesies rather then gowns before moving her out of the NICU and i did end up using some of our own diapers. But after 3 days of free diapers i wasn't about to complain.
For sure i will be grabbin everything left for her. Once it's been opened or used once they're just going to toss it out anyways. So a nice travel tube of vasaline.... you betcha i'm taking it.
I'll leave the bag in the car for when we deliver. DH can bring it up with him later when i'll actually need our own stuff to go home.
This is what I'm thinking too!!
