Anyone from Spokane?

My husband is starting to look for a new job and he is looking at a couple in the Spokane area. Where is a good area to live? Would you suggest living there? Any other information would be great appreciated! TIA!

Re: Anyone from Spokane?

  • I can't give you too much info other than I will be transplant there in less than 2 weeks.  We are staying in Liberty Lake (East of Spokane right near the Idaho boarder), in an apartment for about a year.  I really like the northern area of Spokane near Whitworth.  My husband has been staying near that area for the past 2 months.

If he does get a job there we should GTG!

Where is he looking at getting a job. Spokane is nowhere near as big as Seattle, but it definitely has its nice and not so nice areas.

I went to Gonzaga and lived in and around the campus, but I had friends that lived in the Valley and the South Hill. The South Hill would be the most similar to Seattle area neighborhoods like Phinney, Ballard, Fremont, and some parts similar to Magnolia and Medina. The S. Hill is my favorite area. It is more pricey, but nothing like Seattle.

The Valley has newer homes and is more tract-home like. There are parts that are nice, and then there are parts that would be described as the ghetto.

Northeast Spokane/Liberty Lake would be similar to your more woodsy/rural areas like Duvall, Woodinville, Redmond, Snoqualmie, and North Bend.

Stay away from neighborhoods around Division Street and Hamilton. If you decide to make the move, you can PM me with the areas you are interested in and I can tell you where they are and if they are decent: schools, parks, clean, etc.

I lived in Spokane for 2 years while going to nursing school and I agree with every thing Knemo wrote. The South Hill is great. Also, I have a friend that lives a few miles down Highway 195 in a development called Eagle Ridge. That area is nice as well as quiet.

  • I've never lived there but I love to stop for lunch when I drive to Montana to visit family.  The Riverfront Park makeover is awesome.
  • Thanks to all the information! I will definately use your recs when we figure out where we will be going. I will probably ask more questions as well. I can't wait to move back to a bigger city!

ChubbyCheekiesMom-I would love to have a g2g if we move up there.

  • I have an account there so I fly over at least 2x a month and stay in s hotel . I love, love, love south hill! Gorgeous neighborhoods, huge old homes. Reminded me of Queen Anne. I told dH I wanted to move just so I could live in that neighborhood!

  • I am from Spokane! I have lived in the "North-side, Hillyard Neighborhood, on the West-Central Neighborhood Downtown and now I live on the South Hill. I like the South Hill, it is quiet and peaceful, the west-central neighborhood is like that as well, but there are some parts that aren't, like near the courthouse! The worst part of the south hill is the roads are not strait and it is easy to get lost in the back roads, you do have to get used to it!

  • I currently live in Walla Walla. I love that I'm in the WA wine country but the area is full of old, grumpy farmers! I grew up in Tacoma so I'm used to a bigger city and it is too small here for me.
