I was scheduled for an induction on May 10, but found out last Wednesday that I would need to go in a few days earlier than expected because my blood pressure was creeping up fast. So, I went in for my induction at 5am on May 6. I was 38 weeks, 5 days.
My induction experience was pretty basic, but was a great experience. They started the pitocin at 5:45. I was 3cm and 60%. They upped the dose every 15 minutes, and I became uncomfortable enough to get the epidural at 9:15, right before my doctor broke my water. I was at a 4 and 80% at that point. At 1:00, I was still only a 6, so my nurse moved me to my left side. The epidural had only completely taken on my right side, and I became VERY uncomfortable on my left side for the next hour. This was the only time that I really felt a lot of pain, but it paid off because by 2:00 I was complete and ready to push. Unfortunately, my doctor was at her office seeing patients at this time and the nurse told me to "wait while the doctor finishes up at her office." I told her that she had to be freaking kidding me as I was already feeling a lot of pressure. Luckily they were able to top off my epidural while I waited and the pain went away. I still felt a lot of pressure with every contraction, but the pain was bearable. The nurses set up the room for delivery as I "labored down" and the baby got into a better position for delivery. By the time the doctor arrived an hour later, the baby was only about an inch from coming out. At 3:00, the doctor came and Miss Emily Margaret came into the world two pushes later at 3:08. She weighed 7 lbs 10 ozs and was 21 inches long.
This was my second induction and I can't believe it went even better than the first. We are so in love with our little girl and love watching her big brother bond with her. I hope everyone else who has to have an induction has as positive experience as we did. ![]()
