Would you get a rocking chair for your nursery?

I've found an upholstered rocking chair that I'm considering for baby #2's nursery--we have a a limited budget and it's a really good price.   I don't like the look of a traditional glider and want to stay away from those.   Other upholstered gliders are a little out of our budget, otherwise I'd just go that route.

  • We have something similar and I love it!

  • I really like that! Where is it from?

I don't like the look of traditional gliders either and bought a Poang rocking chair from Ikea. Its very comfortable and I like the way it looks, and I don't really mind this but the rocking motion is suprisingly limited.

  • That looks awesome - better than the rocking chair we have in the nursery.  Of course, we only use the chair to read a bedtime story.  We've never fed DD in there.

  • If I could do it over again, I would get something like that. We have the traditional glider, and while it is nice and we used it a lot I won't be able to reuse it once we are done having kids. Me and DH were at BBB this weekend and DH fell in love with a chair like that. He thinks we should get it and put it in our loft, since that is where we spend most of our time.

By the way, where did you find that one? If it is in our budget I might think about getting it, the one at BBB was way over our budget!

  • I would like to but space is limited as we are keeping the queen size bed in the room for when the "grandmothers" come to visit.

  • We have something like that (ours also reclines) and use it daily.  We did the middle of the night feedings in the nursery and sometimes fell asleep in the chair ourselves.
  • We use ours multiple times a day, but ours has an ottoman and I consider it essential. I do not know if I would use it as much if there was no ottoman.

  • For those who asked: it's a Durel from Walmart ($219 with the slipcover).

  • I really like this.  Have you tried it out by any chance?  Just wondering how the actual motion compares to a glider?  It just rocks like a traditional rocking chair right?

  • We just ditched out glider for a cool MCM rocker.  To be honest I was never a big glider user (I BF, so middle of the night feedings are in our bed) and w/ the ottoman it took up too much space.

We haven't, it's only available online!  That's what I'm most worried about, we have a super nice leather chair that is also a glider in DD1's room and it's really easy to use.  I'm not sure that this one is going to be as "easy" to use!  We went ahead and ordered it, since I've been stalking it for months and it's never in stock!

  • We have something similar and love it.  When LO really needs to be soothed, in my experience you aren't going to be able to do it sitting down anyway.
  • I love the idea!  I think a rocker would be wonderful to have.  I would love to have this one:

You can actually buy legs and change it into a regular chair later.

My DH works a second job at Pottery Barn (only for the 40% discount), so it makes it a little more affordable.

I think it will be a great addition to your nursery - and we may copy your idea!  :)

  • Absolutely. That is a beautiful piece of furniture. If you decided you didn't want it in the nursery anymore it would work great in a living room too.

We didn't use ours initially since she slept in our room the first 4 months, but ever since she has been in her own room I feed her in there and read to her. I think its an absolute must!
