Sam is the GSD mutt and he would give his right paw to lick the crap out of W if i let him. I really have to watch him, because he goes in for a sneak attack. Marley would run from the room that I would enter with the baby, but he is making real progress. Now he will let me sit down next to him with the baby and I let him sniff her. I am probably overly careful, but between Marleys nervousness and Sams playfulness, you just never know. I bet in a few years she will try to ride them like a horse, and they will let her. lol
Nothing wrong with being careful when it comes to pets and babies. We always watch when they are together..luckily Dingo is really great with Benjamin. He would definitely lick him to death too if I let him, but he has learned to control himself. He accepted him right away as a member of the family. You can tell he gets a little jealous from all the attention the baby gets, but more in a mopey "woe is me" kind of way.
I'll never forget the first time we put LO in his crib, the dog came to the bedroom to "check" on everyone before he went to bed. No baby in the bassinet. He looks in the bed, no baby. He started pacing back and forth and getting concerned, so DH took him into the nursery and showed him that the baby was there. After he knew where he was he sighed and went to bed. DH and I were cracking up!
I can guarantee they will be BFFs in a few years for sure.
