We named our daughter Julia and are very happy w/ our name choice. It fits her well. BUT, I find myself saying her name either..
Ju-leee-ah
or Jewel-yah
I am trying to remind myself to stick to one way. I bet there are other names that people say both ways back and forward. Just curious which way you say it! I think I like the former better, so I am trying to 'train' myself to be more aware of it when I say it.
Re: How do you say Julia?
Jewel-yah

Joo-lee-ah.
I always thought it was a southern thing to pronounce it Julya

I guess I say Ju-lee-ah, but when I say it fast, it almost sounds like Jewel-yah. When I overthink it, then I'm not really sure what I normally say....

ITA. I picture Paula Deen saying it.
Either way, though!
Ju-leee-ah
I actually pronounce it "Robert."
Ju-lee-ya.
Ju-lee-ah
My name is Juliet and I have always pronounced it as three syllables. Occasionally people ask me the pronunciation, and I know it's because they think it could be pronounced JULyet, but I don't say it that way, or at least I don't think I do.
Funny, because as a Southerner, Julya sounds Northern to me.
I have always thought the name was Joo-lee-ah.
Ju-leee-ah
This is exactly what I was thinking. I first thought I say ju-lee-ah then I said Julia Roberts and thought maybe I do say jewel-yah. After saying it a few times and overthinking it I realized I say it the first way but sometimes it runs together more and sounds like the second way.
This maked me laugh because when I lived in the south everyone pronounced my friends name Jewel-ya.....I say joo lee ah...
Laughing at this, because THIS is exactly me too!! haha. Thanks everyone for your response. Looks like ju-lee-ah is the more popular way to say Julia. I appreciate your comments!
This. My grandmother's name was Julia, but she went by Julie. Anyway. my southern family members usuallysay Julya. I think I go back and forth honestly, lol.
