Hi Ladies! Aldi is having the grand opening in my town today. I need some bananas and Milk. I keep reading that they have low prices on produce and such. Do you like the quality?
We have one here. I only usually buy the Red/yellow peppers way cheaper than in tore and some fruit and granola bars. you just have to watch because in my opinion I think it goes bad faster than regular but we use quickly usually so dont really have to worry.
My DH says he can taste the difference on food so I try to not buy much dinner food there more just snacks, but we did find there Frozen pizzas are good for a quick meal and sometimes have Name Brand stuff. We just got the boys Fisher Price Swings there.
I used to have one in my hometown and found it to be mostly off-name brands and a lesser quality.
One just opened here and I checked it out. Still off-brands but I did see a few snack foods that were brand names that I recognized. I got some cheap produce and it was fine but the strawberries (that looked perfect in the store) barely made it 3 days and the bananas had a lot of brown spots inside (while the outside was still greenish). Could have been a fluke but I'm probably not going back again. Not worth the extra stop to buy cheap fruit that doesn't keep, imo.
Read the labels. I have only been once, but when I got home, I started to read the labels and realized that the "kidney beans" had a bunch of additives not normally in them, same with the tomatoes. Stuff like modified food starch and corn syrup, not normally in the store brands I buy, which usually only have salt (if that) and water as an additive.
I buy most of our groceries there, but we are not a name brand family at all. Most products are generics in our house. The produce at our Aldis comes from the same place that our local grocery stores get their produce. The only difference is that there are no coolers or fancy displays. If you want name brand canned goods and boxed items you most likely will not find them, but as for milk and bananas they are way cheaper than our grocery stores.
ETA: I also buy apples, cucumbers, tomatoes, and potatoes there and have never had an issue with quality.
Meat, frozen shrimp, frozen bags of chicken breasts, milk, eggs, cheese sticks, cream cheese, fruit, veggies, whole wheat pasta, condiments, PEPPER BACON ROCKS!! Oh and the chocolate bars are yummy. Some of the Grandessa is pretty good. Especially some of the salsa's and the fruits of the forest jam.
It is sometimes hit or miss what I will get there but for the most part I have been happy with it. I can't do my whole grocery list there so I don't go all the time but I do frequently go.
I did have an issue with Strawberries going bad but we bought them on Friday and I didn't get to them until Tuesday because it was the weekend of DS's birthday.

I shop at ALDI and love it! I've cut down my budget from about $200 every two weeks to just under $90 every two weeks. I get snack foods, lunch, and dinner fixings. Their produce is usually pretty decent as long as you go Wednesday or Thursday when the new produce is out for the week. Milk, eggs, cheese and bread are always good. So far there are only a couple of items we're not fans of. Their take on Doritos aren't great, but their potato chips are. All of their products are marked to be read easily for food allergies. (My son is allergic to dairy.) Overall I am impressed. I still hit up a different store to stock up on chicken though, except I do get ALDI's whole chickens. Oh and surprisingly their toilet paper is decent (there are two kinds, the softer one is good), sandwich bags, foil, trash bags and body wash are all good.
ETA: Oh and their products aren't off brands. They are ALDI brand. ALDI is actually owned by Trader Joe's. So most of their products are produced in the same facilities are Trader Joe's products. If you look at the manufacturer information is says ALDI. And if you don't like a particular product, take it back. That's what we've done. You get double your money back. And they do occasionally carry name brand products like Pop Tarts and they do like to carry a small section on non-food items. Right now they have a couple grills and gardening items and a Little Tikes water table.
Read the labels. They do have weird additives to their processed food. I would never buy meat there, either.
Much of their stuff is not that great. Their bread is overpriced.
I do like the price of their multi colored peppers, but that's about the only thing I'd go there for. I used to shop there as a single girl and I'd get the peppers and the Tombstone Light veggie pizzas and their "Fit and Active" products.
Stay at home mom to a house of boys: two amazing stepsons, 12 and 9, and our 4 year old.
We shop there about 2 x a month to get staples like:
flour, sugar, brown sugar, powdered suger, oyster crackers, olive oil, spices (99cents), Eggs, Milk, orange juice, bananas (39 cents/lb), pineapple, etc. I also like their frozen fish. Their produce is fine. It didn't used to be when I started shopping there like, 4 years ago, but since then their quality, in our store anyway, has increased. More people shop there so demand is higher.
You won't find name brand, and in some cases, my DH likes Aldi stuff better. I don't buy hardly any processed stuff anyways.
Try it out. I can get my shopping done there in 20 -30 min. It is quick because they don't have so many choices. It's simple.
Bring your own bags to bag up your merchandise and a quarter for the cart. That is how they save on $$
I am starting to buy more at Aldi's. The one in my town is not very nice and kind of where the really lower class people shop but I think other people are finding that there's some goof stuff there. (Please no one be offended by that- I don't know how else to put it!!)
I have been buying tons of baking things there including chocolate chips, brownie mix, pudding/jello mixes etc.
I also like their canned fruit and veggies.
The other day I needed some fresh mozzarella for a recipe and it was 3- something at my Walmart but I got it at Aldi's for just over $2!
I like Aldi. Their prices are great (if don't use coupons at your normal grocery store). I get my 100% whole wheat bread there for 1.50! Milk and eggs are almost always much lower than at grocery stores. Staples like sugar, flour are inexpensive. Their mac and cheese is REALLY cheap and tastes just like Kraft I bought strawberries there and they were great! I definitely recommend Aldi.

I don't regularly shop there, but I do like going from time to time because some stuff I really like. For example, I love their:
Iced tea mix, vanilla cappucino mix, & their cans of refrigerated pretzel dough.
I also have picked up ground beef for dirt cheap (it was marked down). I got 3 pounds for less than $1/pound. Can't beat that!
I say check it out! To me, the quality has been just fine.
