3rd Trimester

Either I gained 13 lbs in 4 days or

I gained a bunch of water weight from being on IV fluids for the past 2 days. ?It's got to be the fluids, right? ?I was hospitalized on Monday for pneumonia and I was on IV fluids and hospital bedrest for 2 days. ?I weighed myself Sunday morning and this morning, and I've gained 13 lbs. ?I'm also very swollen, especially my legs. ?It's got to be the fluids, or mostly the fluids, right? ?I ate next to nothing on Monday and not much yesterday either, and ate normally on Sunday and Tuesday. ?I'm not freaking out about the weight per se, just worried something is wrong.

  • Ya I would def. blame that on all the fluids. It should go down over the next few days.

    Hope you feel better

  • definitely sounds like fluid and swelling to me!
  • Anytime I have ever gotten IV fluids, I swell up like crazy. It should go away soon.
  • It has to be the fluids.  You'd have to overeat by almost 50,000 calories to actually gain that much weight, and I'm pretty sure that's all but impossible to do in such a short time frame Smile

  • That's absolutely the IV fluids. I was on IV fluids while I gave birth and I was so puffy and swollen afterward. It took a few days to sweat off and pee off all of the extra water (lol), but it came off. Nothing is wrong. You're OK. It's those IV fluids. :) Keep drinking water to get things moving out of your body.

  • It certainly fluids. It maybe just from the hospital IV or it could be since you are so close to the end of your pregnancy your body is retaining fluids to prep for birth. Either way it will disappear very soon. With my first pregnancy, I gained 8lbs in a week right before I gave birth. At the end of pregnancy the body does some amazing/crazy stuff... :)
