DH wants to have a party next weekend... I'm OK with that. Our last one was in Feb and several people couldn't come because they were out of town, and they'd be able to come to this one. But I have no idea what to serve!
The first party (C's birthday) we served burgers and hot dogs, baked bean casserole, chips and several dips, fruit salad, veggie tray and corn on the cob.
The second party, we served grilled, BBQ chicken, hot dogs, potato salad (that was gone before I got to eat any), tortilla chips and rotel dip, lacation cookies and about a zillion other cookies (someone was going to bring a veggie tray and got cookies instead... and two other people just brought cookies anyway- it took us a month to eat them all- and we were sending them home with guests!)
So... now what should we make? We considered making BBQ sandwiches... A few of our friends don't eat pork at all though- and I don't like BBQ beef. DH doesn't want to do frozen burgers- he wants hand made patties, but I HATE making our own patties. We also considered just doing heavy appetizers and desserts.
Thoughts?
Re: I need some party help too...
first, what the heck are lactation cookies?
second, what about DIY pizzas? you could either buy the crusts pre-made, or make them your self and have the toppings there for people to make their own. have lots of munchy stuff for people to snack on while you cook the pizzas, and then chow down once they're ready.
These are the lactation cookies I make: https://rumbleinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2009/01/oatmeal-chocolate-chip-cookies-aka.html Several women here love them, myself included. They have the potential to increase milk production. :-) I usually do white chocolate chips and craisins instead of chocolate chips though.
I like the pizza idea, but fear it would take an extremely long time to make pizzas for so many people. Last time we had at least 25 people over... I think the eating in shifts would have a negative effect on the game-playing that DH intends to do (someone brings Can Jam and Cornhole... and he'll probably want to play video games in his newly completed mancave too...)
okay, i was really afraid those were cookies made from your own milk. as much of a crazy hippie as i can be, i don't think i'd be okay with serving that at a party.
yah, the pizzas are a bit much for that many people. our parties are usually no more than 10, so that works a little better. good luck figuring out what to do.
You could do the pulled pork and pulled chicken (cooked the same way you would pork).
Taco bar! You could prepare everything ahead of time and have the meat (and black beans and/or chicken) in a crockpot. Ask a friend or two to bring a crockpot a day before. Then have bowls of the fixings and tortilla shells set up. Serve chips and salsa and guac, maybe a salad too.

Eh...what they don't know won't hurt them, right?!
(I rarely state that something I make is vegan - but most people coming to our house should realize that it's going to be vegan! - Except for my idiot BIL..he's just a dork!)

I like this idea! We considered doing this, I was just a little nervous about the logistics of it, but I didn't think about doing chicken in the crock pot! My local bestie has three... I'm sure she wouldn't mind letting me borrow one or two. (My crock pot lid is broken, so maybe I can finally get my new crock pot!)
This is an awesome idea! I'm writing it down for my next party.
